IIRC not all silica gels will turn blue when dried. Some of those packs have indicators or indicator crystals that will change color when they are saturated, but not all of them. If you are trying to reuse ones that come packed in items from the store they may not have indicators. They were intended to be tossed, but that doesn't mean that they can't be recharged and reused. I have some large desiccant packs that I acquired from work that do not have the indicator crystals, instead they shipped with a small card that has indicator circles on it. The center of the circles change shades as the bags get saturated, when the last circle turns they need replacing or recharging. I can't speak for yours, but the wrapping on mine are made from DuPont TyVek so they should handle the heat.

The direction above for recharging the silicate packs is good, but if you are in the US like I am your oven might not read in Celsius. Bake the packs at 212°F for around an hour, if have an old analog oven like me just set it for 225-250 for an hour the little extra temp shouldn't hurt it. If the wrapping can't handle the heat then remove it, but be very careful with the contents. You do not want that stuff getting into foods or into the hands of little ones that stick everything in their mouth, but I'm sure you already knew that. After recharging you need to use immediately or store in a cool dry place to keep it ready. A zip lock bag or old jar (preferably something that seals decently) in the fridge or freezer might work good. If that's not an option then an airtight container just barely large enough to hold the silicate, you don't want a lot of air in there for it to absorb the humidity out of. Maybe keep a second storage container for used desiccant needing to be recharged. I've done a lot of reading on desiccant and I'm just regurgitating that info here, I can't attest to it's validity because I haven't put it to use yet.

As for loose desiccant in the flashlight, try wrapping the amount you need in part of a coffee filter for putting into the light. They are tightly woven and work good as a dust filter, but they also allow moisture through pretty well. There are a surprising number of things that coffee filters are good for besides making coffee. I feel really stupid after typing these last few sentences. I actually had to look up how to spell coffee, but hey I don't drink the stuff.

Do you know of any online stores that sell silica gel? Preferable the ones that you can put in the oven ( mine melted :( ) If it only needs to be put inside the light overnight that is very feasible for me.

BTU Shocker, but the quality isn't very good. Stick with the TK75.
 
Sorry haven't shopped for it much. Prefer to reuse what I get for free. You may be able to find it locally at craft stores, I'm sure there are places online to buy it. I think I've seen it on Amazon, but not positive.

You might want to try rice before spending money on silica. While not as strong rice does have mild desiccation properties. For the small amount of moisture you are dealing with it might be enough. I'd use it same way as the loose silica. Maybe go a step further and Aldo out the whole light into a zip bag with more rice. Once again if it is goint to work it will do so overnight.

I have absolutely NO MORE CONDENSATION ISSUES after a $5.00 investment of 10/3gram packets of silica gel! I got mine on Ebay or amazon,can't remember! Just "Google" Silica Gel packets and you will have plenty of choices.

I am a very impatient person!! However, I stayed patient and saw this through and it is WORTH IT. It is a great light with one of the best warranty packages that you can ask for.

There was not enough detailed information on how to do this for me. I have some silica gel, but after cooking it the gel did not turn blue (as the internet says it should). So I pretty much threw my hands up. This should be on the manufacturer to fix anyhow.

I answered your questions in detail. You DO NOT have to wait 3 days until each time you use your torch. I initially let the silica gel packets sit in batt. chamber for 3 days to make sure the condensation was out.Rest of the info. is on that thread!

You need the Silica Gel packets,,,,,,,,that is what I used!

I was under the impression that you need to let the silica gel sit for 3 days. If I am without the TK75 for 3 full days every two weeks that is highly unacceptable.

Thanks everyone for the great and informative replies (and the birthday wish :) )!

One of my coworkers let me borrow some silica gel and I cooked it tonight for 1.5 hours at 275F. I will leave the gel in until late Monday night and do a final test then. If there is no fogging issues then I will keep it and deal with the silica fix (hopefully it does not need to be done often at all). Any additional information is welcome!

P.S. I will be getting that Eagtac light soon enough!
