Hello there folks.

Being a relatively recent convert to LED lights and having bought several, I am now thinking of 'building' my own.

Having viewed (and re-viewed) the Sandwich Shoppe pages, I quite fancy building a McLux using a HA PR-T head and the 3x123 Powerpack.
Now comes the tricky bit. I would like to use a white 3W or 5W luxeon. Dependant on that, which board should I use?

Apologies for my ignorance, the answers are probably staring me in the face in the Shoppe pages - I can manage a soldering iron but the maths & what have you of electronics are still something of a 'grey area' for me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

All advice/comments/thoughts gratefully accepted.

You are from Devon eh? hmmmm....

Sorry Lawrence, drifted off there for a moment. Now your question:

You'll need a DownBoy for that setup for either of the LEDs that you've suggested.

Oh, and don't forget to go high amperage (750 -1000ma?), and you'll see how a PR-T can throw!

Hope that helped.

I definitely recommend you go for a Downboy 1000. Running off 3x123 should give you decent runtime. And if you are worried about churning through batteries, I recommend you use a couple of Pila 150 rechargeable Li-ion batteries in it.

If you go with a 5W Luxeon, you will only be able to run the head on three 123s, but not 2 123s. If you go with a 3W Luxeon you will also be able to use the same head on a 2x123 pack (McLux or SureFire E series compatible).

Jon, have you got some kind of watchdog on CPF that pops up every time someone posts something with the word 'Pila' in it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/poke2.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

balrog>every once in awhile I do a search on the word Pila. I would hate to miss any Pila news. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks folks, I really appreciate your help. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It only remains for me to get the bits now & as soon as I've got it up & running will post pics of the finished item.

Thanks again
