Looking at the Firefly which is a supurb design in itself, I was thinking of a light in similiar size that could or would be made? One Pila Li-Ion, Direct drive. This would allow for a shorter and very reliable light. Li-Ion batteries have a pretty flat discharge making them an ideal canadate. If you needed back up power, you could pop a 123 battery with a small spacer in it. Any thoughts on this?

Glow Bug,
I direct drove a Q3J with a single Pila 168. The 150 should be the same as far as current flow and internal resistance. It make for a really bright light for about 3 hours, then the LED died. Definitely need some resistance or something.
 
Oh well, it was just a thought. Dspeck probably has a full plate now anyway. Never hurts to dream. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sleepy.gif
 
Chop, 3.6 volts DD should not damage a Q3J unless it's inadequately heat sinked. How was yours set up and how hot did it get?
 
A freshly charged Pila 168 is way over 4v and maintain its voltage for quite a while especially for 1W LS.
