Well I severly screwed my mobo in my Toshiba, and after spending 2 months trying to find a replacemnt part for a reasonable price I'm on the brink of giving up and parting it out on e-pray. BUT, I do need to get a bunch of stuff off the HD and wipe it clean, so to my question: Is there any type of adapter or cord around that I could use for this without throwing the HD into a working laptop? Maybe something that I could plug into the HD and then into a USB port to act like an external HD?

Yes, you can either get an enclosure for the hard drive, or just a cable, both of which provide power and a USB connection to your PC. I have several of them for the larger PC sized HD's that I keep old HD's in for backup purposes. Should cost around $25-35.

You can get an adapter that goes from laptop size HD connectors to a regular 3.5" Desktop size hard drive. They are just a couple bucks and since most desktops have plenty room and capability to have at least 2 HD's in them at the same time it should be an easy way to get things off. You could also probably use this adapte in an external 3.5" HD USB enclosure. Should find lots of these on eBay, probably NewEgg and other places on the net if local shops don't have them.

wow, good idea on the ebay. Just picked up a nice I.C. unit for ..99c + $3 s/h!
