Reviving old Streamlight Stinger flashlights.

Hello,
I have two old Stingers that I want to start using again. My guess is that I bought them new around 1999-2002. One is the regular Stinger and the other is the Stinger HP. I have the standard charger, the piggyback charger, and the car charger for them. I currently only have one battery which is the Streamlight 75375 which I bought new from Amazon in 2019. When I charge it for 24 hours it seems like the lights aren't as bright as I remember. I used the regular charger for this. I have a few questions about bringing these lights back up to current use. These lights are in mint condition with the exception of the clear lens on the regular Stinger, it has a very small star crack in it right in the center. I don't know how that happened.

Should I stick with the Streamlight brand batteries?

How should I clean the battery contacts and the charger contacts? All contacts look clean but I know that can be deceiving.

I'm considering upgrading the regular Stinger to LED with a Lumens upgrade. Do I need to change anything else on the light?

Thanks,

Steve

I know little about Stingers or their batt packs, but I would tend to stick w/ OEM (from SL or authorized distributor).

You should be able to find an OE source for a replacement for the damaged lens.

I know of nothing else that is the equal of DeOxit D100 for removal of surface oxidation, minimizing contact resistance, and inhibiting its reoccurrence regarding flashlight (or other) electrical contacts. I use D100L (liquid) w/ various swabs / brushes for application. It's 'magic';-)

Others with more Stinger knowledge can no doubt speak to possible modifications. Most of my experience is w/ Strions, Protacs, Scorpions, etc., and all of mine are 'stock'.

Thanks for the reply. I actually have some DeOxit.

Streamlight themselves sell a full factory upgrade kit for the Stinger that turns it into the current Stinger Classic LED model. It's not expensive and it replaces most of the working parts of the light. Would recommend if you're going to actually be using them. And yeah, factory battery is the one you want.

If you find one of these 2x18650 batery holder for Streamlight Stinger flashlight and swap the bulb with TL-3 bulb, you will be much happier for brightness and run time per charge.

I upgraded mine with a Lumens Factory Stinger-LED module using a Nichia 519a pushing a max at 850 lumens. Very bright and made it on par with a lot of modern light. Love the old Stingers!
