Here is a picture of one of the RGB LEDs stuck in place of the standard lamp on a regular 2AA flashlight. No other circuitry was added. A NX05 was drilled out and some fiber optic fibers were glued in the hole.

These guys will be great for winter projects and the long winter nights and holidays. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'm thinking about doing a small table top fountain with a couple of these. (Northern lights come to Berkeley /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif )

Just a question, I think I have some similar RGB leds. They're housed in photon-clone housings running off 2 CR2016's.

Do I have to change the resistors when I swap them into the A2? I've done some measurements, and I'm getting strange behaviour with them. They don't change colour when the A2 is on high.

I think the LEDs are rated up to 5V or so. I wouldn't try going higher than that. I haven't tried them past 3V.

If the A2 is a 2X123, that might be too much voltage for the LED.

Since the LED is not a constant current device, but, more like an IC. The current varies from near zero to 30mA depending on how many dies are turned on and how hard.

These are voltage devices and not current.

I built two Porcupines in the PSY-OP format using the RGB's; one for me and one for PK. There is something fishy about the circuit that keeps the LED's from working when the LA is in place. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif I kept the stock resistors (white LED ring) in place. You probably noticed that the RGB's do work when the Incan is turned on. It may be that a lower resistor would allow for the RGB's to work in the A2 Low mode but then High might be too much power? This is a puzzel for an EE......

I don't know what ARC uses for the RGB LEDs, but if it is this BL-LBTC5N30C it looks like the IC is preprogrammed in factory, and different sequence of light can be customized.

The thing I know about simple microprocessor is that they crash/lock up sometimes due to several factors such as ripple in the powersupply, under/over-voltage and of course bug in software.

However, I would assume that it is power problem to why the RGD LED would not function. From what I know, the A2 is a digital flashlight. I do not have an A2 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif, I am going to make an assumption. If the power to the LEDs is digitally regulated, it might not be smooth enough for the IC controller chip in the RBG LED. Try fitting a small capacitor in parallel with the leads of the RBG LED and see what happens.

If what Wayne said about the high voltage is true, it could be fix with a voltage drop diode?
