Damn. Even though everyone knew it was coming, it still hurts. He might not have been the best president in terms of the economy, but he was an absolute model for being an honest and decent human being. His post-retirement work for Habitat for Humanity was amazing, and he came really close to eradicating a parasitic worm from the earth with his tireless crusade against it. We need more Jimmy Carters in the world.
He was also the Navy's go-to guy for nuclear reactors and was sent to clean up a damaged Canadian reactor that suffered a partial meltdown.

If you want to insult and anger a Saudi dignitary, you need to shake hands with your left hand. That's the hand they use to wipe their butts with after going number two. If you're an American and shake their hands after just taking a leak, odds are your hands are still cleaner than theirs. They live in a desert. Water to wash up is scarce. Their perfumes are made from camel ****.

As a non US citizen I'm not commenting on any relative, because there is probably a black sheep in every family. Or at least a sheep with a fur the color of one of the fifty shades of grey. But I'm old enough to remember him as a president. As such he may not have defeated serious threats to society, but he was a man of great honor. Who achieved more in his post president era than any of this colleagues.

Oddly, or maybe appropriately, as I get older I don't mourn the death of those who have lived well and lived long. Peace at last Mr. President. Rest.
For three years approaching the year 2000, I had the opportunity almost every month to converse with a former governor of New Mexico. At governor’s conferences he met many people, including Bill Clinton and his wife, as well as Jimmy Carter. While I will refrain from describing the discrete yet telling comments about Clinton, this successful state leader said that Jimmy Carter was the most intelligent man he had ever met. One could see on his face the deep respect he had for the man from Georgia, even when I went through the litany of shortfalls of Carter’s presidency.

Mr Carter had the unfortunate distinction of having the misery index plastered on the tv news every night. He got much of the blame for a bad economy. At times it exceeded 17% but..... he inherited a 16% from Mr Ford. It really began with Lyndon Johnson leaving the economy in shambles then Nixon policies not improving it much. Reagan got it down to an average of 12 during his time but it went back up under HW Bush. It fell below 10 under Clinton. It had not exceeded 10 after that until the current office holder where it nearly reached 11 at one point.
Jimmy Carter was a brilliant man but not a good politician. He was never the same after Roslyn passed away.

Before he was the 39th president of the United States, Jimmy Carter was a nuclear power expert with the U.S. Navy.
Having served in the US Navy Submarine Service, most of the enlisted and officers are exceptionally well trained on nuclear physics, and all aspects of onboard nuclear reactors and could have also handled that problem. Admiral Hyman Rickover is responsible for browbeating congress to get approval for our nuclear navy and known as "The Father of the Nuclear Navy." I met him on several occasions, and he was a very eccentric, demanding, and oddball officer...in the same category as Howard Hughes. When he arrived in New London Subase, he had a whole list of candies and misc items that had to be arranged perfectly on his nightstand. The problem was some of his snacks were only available in the Bethesda/Washington DC area, so you sure as hell better have stocked up in advance. One time they forgot, and a "runner" was sent to drive the 365 miles each way just to get his mints.
