Flashlight Enthusiast
Here's what I did several years ago to a Vista Lite Road Toad
http://vistalite.com/
The original was a 4AA light with a ridiculously expensive custom PR bulb. I used a 6V 500mA Krypton from Radio Shack in this one, off the 2700mAh 6V camcorder battery. Worked very well. The original cord and connection were much rougher, having been made from ballpoint pen springs and a credit card-like plastic card. I put the batt in a triangle pouch under the top bar. I don't bike much any more (hurts my hands), so now it's a flashlight.
The all-wire coaxial jack is a technique I made use off all through my childhood, when I wanted to power projects off whatever adapter I had handy. It works quite well.
