Hi All,
I have a 6 D Mag that ive had kicking around for many years and i dont use it anymore, i was going to get rid of it due to my collection of LED Flashlights that make it comepletely redundant but after doing a bit of reading i decided to spend a bit of money on the old girl and fork out for the ROP upgrade. My question is in regards to powering it, i hear alot of people talking about using AA's in D converters etc, is there any reason why i couldnt just use Accupower Evolution LSD D Cells, 6 of them would give me 7.2 Volts which is perfect for the ROP bulb, i should get full power out of the light if im not mistaken. I will use the light on hunting trips and charge before i go, so having batteries that will last for months in the light isnt a concern, my only concern's are light output and runtime. Appreciate any help, i usually just buy off the shelf LED lights so this will be my first time tinkering with a light (all be it very basic).

I've done the ROP in a 2D with 6AA's and also did one in a 5D sleeved for 6C's. the C cells sagged less and gave more output so I imagine the 6D would be great!

I've done a ROP in a 6D and it is a great way to have good output AND run time. Go for it.

My 6D is about to be converted to drive a 64458 bulb. BIG light needs BIG output.

No reason not to, in fact this is the option I would have recommended if you just asked "what should I use to power my 6D ROP light".

You should be able to get ~2 hours on the ROP High bulb or >4 hours on the low bulb, not bad run time considering the output.

If you simply want to use the ROP low (it may be enough for you) then all you need to do is replace the bulb. But the reflector/lens do need to be upgraded if you'll be using the high bulb for more than a minute or so.

Makes a nice light, with output befitting its size!
