I have to say my RRT-0 XML is my favorite light to EDC. Not saying I own a lot of potential EDC lights, but from what I've seen, it's got crazy output on Li-ions (550lm) and ridiculous runtime on AAs (110lm for 3.5+hrs) is there anything you guys feel is better as far as battery versatility, max output and max runtime (~100 lumens)?

The AA runtime is actually about 5 hrs at 60 lumens, with progressive drop off. It never achieves 110 lumens, which I've compared against my Nitecore D10 (rated at 145 lumens). The XML's about half the brightness...

I think its more of a backup cell option, and the light's designed for lithium or Li-Ion usage.

Hmmm. When I compared it to my ZL SC80 on H2, it's about the same brightness... I'll have to test it again tonight when I get home. That would explain its extremely long run time.
 
Dammit JetBeam and your lies!!!! I should've joined the forum way before making any flashlight purchases... I feel stupid for believing their website but glad I could be enlightened by you all. Is the quark aa better on AAs than the RRT0? In other words, should I get a quark AA?

it sounds like you love your jetbeam (or did) if you like it i would continue to carry it. 60 lumen, 110 lumen output are just numbers. if its a great lite, which it is i would keep it. but yes you should buy the quark AA and run with 14500, just because its worth having both anyways. but then you will need a zebralight SC51, and a SWM V10A. they are all so great just get what you want. but keep your RRT-0

I was thinking about getting the SWM V10A, in your opinion, is it better than the RRT-0 XML? And as for the SC51, I have the SC80 and I like it a lot so would it be worth getting the SC51 also? And is the quark aa on 14500 ~200 lumens or a lot more?

And I would like to thank you guys for your responses to my thread. I'm just trying to expand my flashlight selection with those that everyone else has had good experiences with (my first light was a PC10, I love it but had I read everyone's experiences here first, I probably would've got something else)
 
'Better' is really subjective. The best light for a user depends on the users needs. I have a Jetbeam RRT-0 S2 which I have barely used and only because it is able to go so low in lumen level that it is an ideal nightlight. I have ordered a modded Jetbeam RRT-O with the S2 led replaced with a HCRI led. That will make it an ideal nightlight with a warm and pleasant tint and I will only ever use it indoors at night. The cool white RRT-0 S2 will go into retirement at that point or I might consider selling it.

For outdoor use I prefer cool white lights in urban areas and neutral or warm lights in rural areas. The lights themselves vary depending on where I am and what I am doing. You need to consider the use you will make of it as a light. From what I have read a lot of people like the V10A as an every day carry light. I don't have one because my preferences are different but then I usually find myself going against the trend...
 
I really like the turbo output of my RRT-0 and being able to turn it up or down according to the situation, I just with it had a little more throw when I want it. Kinda wish it was like an old school maglite in the sense you can adjust the head to throw or flood. I think that would be the perfect light.

I like the quark x 1232 but i would want to run it on 1x14500 with the single aa body. Don't know how good that would work though or even if it would work.
 
I was thinking about getting the SWM V10A, in your opinion, is it better than the RRT-0 XML? And as for the SC51, I have the SC80 and I like it a lot so would it be worth getting the SC51 also? And is the quark aa on 14500 ~200 lumens or a lot more?

well on the quark AA X i think it is around 400 to 450 lumens with a 14500, mine is very bright way more that a single AA or AA2. i have some new batteries coming for my two V10R's and i will be able to report later this week on them. but they are supposed to be 460 and 500 lumens for them. i see the V10A is rated the same for the 14500 so you wont be sorry with purchasing that light for sure. but i dont think the V10A is better, just different. i would want both of them, but money is always a factor. i am familiar with and EDC my V10r so i would pick the V10A to be my EDC but that is up to what you want and need out of your light for that day. i dont own a SC80 but i do have a SC51w which i love the beam and everything about it. it probably would not replace what you currently have but would make a great addition to them for sure.

I agree about the S2 goes extremely low, witch I love. Funny, when I first got into led lights I wanted the brightest, now I want it to have the lowest. It's pretty good on hi with a CR123. Haven't used it with a RCR123 16340 or 14500, have you?

As others have mentioned, its just a number. As long as you already own it, might as well enjoy the light, right? 110 vs. 60 in practical use isn't completely significant in day to day use unless you use it for something like a bike headlight. Yes it renders my Eneloop collection somewhat redundant when I can carry brighter lights, but the versatility of the control ring is VERY useful (dialing to the exact lumens you needs comes in very handy).

IMO you shouldn't bother with a quark at all unless you really want another light (wait what, did I just say that on CPF? xD ), just sit back and enjoy the Jetbeam! If you're not ready to move into Li-Ion cells just yet you can always invest in the 3V primaries for now. That would give you at least a 260~ lumen output. There's the obvious CR123A route that you can get almost anywhere, but there's also 14505 cells out there with identical capacity (allows you to keep the extender on, so switching to alkaline/NiMH is hassle free if you need to). That I know of Battery Junction is one source for these cells (No affil., satisfied customer), and they're not expensive at all (they're cheaper than Energizer Lithiums for me at least...).

As far as advertising on the RRT-0 XML goes, all specs have been measured by other members to be fully in-line with advertised specs except ~1.5V sources. Caveat would be to treat the Li-Ion high of 550lm as a turbo mode (ie. dim it after a few minutes, as recommended by all the other manufacturers that push such high lumen values).

No. Jet makes great lights and all the RRT's are nice. A difference in lm's of even 50 is hard to sometimes notice. 80-120lm is more than enough for 90% of EDC light uses.

Thank you for making me feel much better about my purchase :-) and I would just sit back and enjoy the RRT-0 but... I... Must... Have... More... Flashlights...
I have a couple RCR123s and 14500. I use an RCR in my PC10 but I dont want the other two to sit on constant standby (I tend to use a 14500 in the RRT-0 but not usually on turbo) I'm looking for a reliable light I can get the most out of using the 123 and 14500 I have. Quark X 123^2 looks good but I would want to be able to use in with an AA body and a 14500 (and an eneloop in an emergency) but I'm not sure that will work out since the voltage is 3.0-9.0
 
I would only use a 123x2 with a 17670. If desiring to use a 14500 I would go with a single AA sized light. Just my own ideals ;~)

What reflector does your RRT have, SMO (smooth) or OP (orange peel)? I complimented my collection of Quarks with a Jet-I Pro v3 with a SMO as a "pocket thrower". Even though I got a warmer tint it still reaches out far while running an AW protected 14500.

My RRT-0 XML has OP relector. i was hoping to get a smoother beam from it, which i can't complain about, but the throw isn't where i would like it to be. but i'm not sure the SMO reflector would help much with my light's throw. what's the best 1 AA / 1 14500 thrower available?
 
17670 = 17mm width and 67mm length
14500 = 14mm width and 50mm length, roughly. different makers tend to have different sizes.

if you plan to use 14500, and eneloops in the quark, get the low voltage head. the high voltage head wont work with eneloops.
the brightness difference wont be alot.

if you want more throw, you might want to get the XP-G versions. XM-L in the same size reflector compared to a XP-G tends to be more floody.
and a XP-E or XR-E in the same reflector would throw better than the XP-G.
if you want the lumens of the XM-L and more throw, you will need a larger or deeper bezel, and reflector. something like a quark turbo.

i had a quark turbo AA, used with a 14500, and it was a nice pocket thrower. i didnt like that the lack of bezel didnt provide enough protection to the larger lens though.
 
damn, looks like i'm going to order a Quark AA R5 so i can use my 14500s and eneloops (the turbo head would be awesome for throw, but doesn't look like it would be a comfortable pocket EDC). why can't ZL release the Q50 already?

i really appreciate everyone's input because it helps me learn through your experiences and helps me make a more informed decision.
