I felt the need to really protect my Arc4 so I came up with this.
I used the 7/8" dia. by 3/4" deep caps from McMasters-Carr
www.mcmaster.com/asp/enter.asp?pagenum=3475
I just cut and stretched the caps over the light. Thanks to cy's switch mod the switch activates under the cap. There is even a bump in the end of the cap to depress the switch.
I have field tested this and am really pleased with the way it came out. I thought I would share it here.

raggie,
I believe that the heat sink will kick in on the Arc4 before this stuff will change composition. Can't remember just what Peter said it was though. McMasters says it's good to 140 f.
I had to heat a marble (acctually a big marble [shooter]) by boiling it in a cup of water and then placing it with tongs on the end of the cap I would use over the switch to make it cup in instead of out. It was on there for about a minite and only changed the shape inward preserving candle mode ability. So I think it can hack the heat.

I think raggie is concerned about the effects of that rubber insulation on the heat disspation of the light as a whole.
