Im just curious to find out if its safe to use rechargeable li-ion cells in the 2 flashlights. i have one of each and love them. Im working with limited funding and a couple cheap dx or kd li-ions are cheaper than burning alkaline primaries.

Also, a quick side question... i know that the AAA li-ions dont have a protection circuit, but do AA ones have them?

Do the flashlight sales specifications say that you can ?

What batt's does the seller say you can use ?

If you don't follow that - no warranty.

County Comm just said they dont recommend 10440 cells as its designed to use standard off the shelf alkalines or lithium primaries. I know using those cells may very well shorten the LEDs life by roughly half, but 25,000 hours iss till a long time.

The shortening of LED life is definitely true (though I'd love to know where you got your 25k hours estimate from), but that isn't the real danger.

The real danger is that when you run a Li-Ion in one of these on high, you are WAY exceeding the specifications of the 10440 cells.

I don't own a Maratac AAA, but I assume that the effect is similar to running a 10440 in an LD01 or iTP EOS A3. At those levels (~800mA and higher discharge), you are holding a potential pipe bomb - which may blow off your fingers/hands.

I say - don't take the risk. But at the end of the day, it's up to you. A broken LED - no big deal. An exploding flashlight - not good.

lynx: i dont have any rechargeable batteries outside of a few li-ion for my solarforce l2 and a basic trustfire charger.
hoongern: Thank you for the info :) ill keep to standard primaries then until i can save some money for a decent charger and some eneloops or something.

for now.. my spare money is going into a solarforce masterpiece pro-1! :D

FWIW, I ran my ITP-A3 off a 10440 at a CPF meet once. It was WICKED-KILLER bright. I would guess ~135L but also got insanely HOT in ~1-2 minutes. The extra Vin really whitened up the color tint too. I doubt the XPE could survive that kind of abuse on a regular extended-run basis though.
