Lo and behold, just below a large selection of Surefires were three or four different Nitecores for sale at a local gun store.

"Is that a D20 there?" I ask the salesman.

"Hmmm, I don't know. Let me look. Yes, it is a D20." He said.

He said that he sells mostly Surefires and that these were new to him.

Interesting.

I've seen Surefire, Fenix, and an occasional Olight. They charge a bit too much, though ($80 for a 6P, $100 for a TK-11, and I don't remember the Olight)

I remember seeing the D20, NDI, and NEX. Mostly "tactical-style." The prices weren't unreasonable, I think. ($70 for the D20, for example.)

Anyway, I was shocked to see Nitecores in a "brick and mortar" store. Like others, I've seen Fenixs and, of course, Surefires, but the other brands are usually cheapies.

The question is where? I've been interested in a NiteCore D20/D10 but want to actually hold one in my hand and play with it before committing.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. (BTW the D20 is bigger than I imagined. I kind of want one now.)

In Portland (Oregon), the store is named Shooter's Service Center in St. Johns.

Yeah, you can find some nice suprises at gun shops. I've found Fenix, Pentagonlight, and a store that sold their last Novatac a month before I got there.:(

I like holding a knife or light before I buy it. So i go to cabelas or gander mountain. Then I come home and buy it online for way less.

I think thats what a lot of people do, thats the way shopping for tactical stuff is done these days. There aren't many stores that carry "the good stuff" and if they do its overly priced. We can save 15 -20% easily online.

I've done that before too but if the price is in the same ballpark I try to buy local. That's the only way for the little guy to survive. (However, if the local price is outrageous then all bets are off...)
