Found this surefire 9P at a thrift store for $1,50 lucky find?

Hi I am new to this forum. I found this flashlight at a thrift store without batteries for 1,50. I googled the batteries and got 3x 123a batteries and the light seems to be working.

Any information on this flashlight would be appreciated.

That's a surefire 9P! It's a great light and with a simple led drop in you have yourself a fantastic light. They run in that condition 100-150 bucks. Great find.they stopped making it awhile back.

If you unscrew the head/bezel end you can check which lamp assembly you have.
Surefire p90: 105 lumens output for about an hour.
An optional upgrade was the P91 lamp assembly which has 200 lumens for only 20 minutes.
Many people upgrade these to an LED lamp assembly for greater output and longer runtime. The Surefire 9P is a 9 volt light so keep that voltage in mind if you want to go down that route.
I bought one of these last year (new old stock) still in its original packaging for EUR 330.00. I'd say you got an incredible bargain! 😁

You should consider treating yourself to a Malkoff Devices dropin for that excellent light. Look at Malkoff's website. Also look at illumn.com; they have Malkoff dropins with high CRI Nichia emitters. Remember that if you do not find a 9 volt dropin that pleases you, you can use a 6 volt dropin with 2 batteries and one battery spacer.

Also what do you mean by output for about an hour? Is that how long it can shine before batteries are empty? I am a complete noob when it comes to flashlights.

I am a complete noob when it comes to flashlights. I do have a very nice Fenix PD36R Pro Led flashlight tho, would the Malkoff perform better than this?

Yes about an hour. Incandescent bulbs suck a battery dry very fast. You can get a malkoff M61 that will run full power 450 Lumens for well over an hour and keep going at a lower power for many hours.

330 EUR! That's crazy. Sad mine didn't come with a box. Could you please tell me where in Europe you bought it since I am looking to sell.

I bought my 9P off ebay from a seller in Italy. The Italians seem to like Surefire's. I've just bought an E1 executive from Italy as well. I live in the UK and use the UK eBay site.
Love my 9p. 2xaa batteries (3 volts) wrapped in paper to stop them rattling fit perfectly lengthwise in a 9p. I use a Malkoff M31LLL 3v low output lamp assembly for super long runtime. It makes a great utility light.

I think it would be something like this.

I have the feeling that outside of the military forces, less than 1% of people have even heard of Surefire in the UK.
When people find out the cost of cr123s they end up sticking the Surefire in a drawer and it gets forgotten about.

When You plan to actually use the 9P on a regular basis, the Cr123 batteries get very expensive.

2 * AA batteries could do rechargeable,
but means toting around air, where bigger batteries would increase runtime

How about:
2 * 17500 Li-Ion cells?
Should fit and seems the most powerful option for the unmodded light.

Ps: You would need a P60 led insert capable to run on the 8.4 Volts ("2 * Li-Ion cell)

Didn't have these Back in the Day.
Nowadays, SureFire or Watson brand RCR123 3.0volt rechargeable lithium batteries. Toss in 3 into the 9P, you're good to go.

Oveready.com has AA Delrin Battery Sleeves 17mm (inexpensive) (2 cell) that prevents rattling. Works perfect in my Surefire G3 with Malkoff M31LLLL 3v module (not currently on sale for quite some time), but they do currently offer M31L which would be nice. Please use lithium AA batteries or rechargeable AA's. The normal alkaline AA batteries are known as "alkaleak" for a reason! To recap, two AA's batteries are the same length as three CR1233 batteries.

Yes eneloops/ikea ladda or energizer lithium is the best way! Currently draining some old lithium AAs in my 9p.
