Hey guys, I'm looking for some good movie recomendations. I like action movies as well as westerns, mob movies and heist movies like Heat and Reservoir Dogs etc... and some drama if it's not too chicky. I know there are some sleepers out there that were'nt big hits at the box office but are still great movies so I thought I'd post on the topic, thanks.

What? No Highlander (first one)? No Ground Hog Day? No Back to the Future? No Magnificent Seven?

But you're right, lotsa good movies there. Just too many more to really list, and some are a matter of taste.

You might like some of these older movies:

The Wild Bunch or Straw Dogs (especially if you liked Reservoir Dogs, but like that, these are definitely NOT "date flicks")

Cult Films:
- Rock and Roll High School (the Ramones, every high school cliche ever thought of, a TON of bad puns and gags, and they blow up the high school -- who could ask for more?)
- The Harder They Come (if you like Raggae, you'll love this -- don't let this put you off, but heavy Jamican accents require subtitle, but for only part of the film. For fun, try to see if you can spot when the sub-titles stop)
- The List of Adrian Messenger (if you'd like a cult mystery flick -- quirky, but much better if you know celebrities from the 50's & 60's -- the end-bit is really, really cool if you do)

These are older films for guys:
Le Mans
The Great Escape
The Train
White Heat
Big Jake
A Bridge Too Far

These are older films for guys, but can be used for "date flicks," too:
Grand Prix
Rear Window
Key Largo
North By Northwest
The Maltese Falcon
Silverado

"Date Flicks" that you can watch, too:
Some Like It Hot
Casablanca

Comedies:
A Night At The Opera
Used Cars (if you liked Airplane, you'll like this)
Blazing Saddles
The General (this is a silent film but very, very funny and some amazing stunts)

Hey MaxB I like those movies too. There really are a LOT to pick from and it's hard to narrow them all down. I'll add those to my computer list. I kinda write them down so I don't forget them. I should really write down the ones that stunk though, that way I wouldn't accidentally watch them again lol

I didn't see this one on my list either.... The Warriors!! 1974 - old gang movie. David Patrick Kelly did good as the nasty villan gang leader. I'd give it a 7. I also liked him in Ahnold's Comando. He played another bad guy that Arnold held by he ankle over a cliff. funny stuff.

Yes, I agree, Commando is a awsome movie. I think it's just about as much gun fighting and explosions and action you could fit into a movie this side of a war flic (such as Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor(cough), Platoon, etc.).

If you pay attention, there are quite a few mistakes in it though. In some shots he is firing a gun in one hand, anda milisecond later it's in his other hand even though nothing else has changed. That happens a couple times. O' well. A good movie none the less.

"Sully, remember how I said I'd kill you last?....."

"Yeah, that's right Matrix, you did!!"

(drop)

"I lied...."

Anything that Clint Eastwood acted in and/or directed, with the exception of The Bridges of Madison County.

One movie that I didn't see on your list:

True Romance

This is no chick flick - it is a bit closer to Resovoir Dogs /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif - but it is indeed an awesome movie. It has Christian Slater, Dennis Hopper, and Patricia Arquette to name a few - but the cast is a whos who and it was written by Quentin Tarrentino! There is a scene between Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken that should be required viewing for all movie buffs.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108399/ is the link.

If you like action/mob movies, then check out "Suicide Kings". Jay Mohr, Christopher Walken, Denis Leary. Very good, tense, funny, good plot with some twists. Not a very popular movie. Some people have seen it and others have no idea it's out there.

And by the way - if you were ever a Ramones fan - Rock 'N Roll High School is indeed a classic - good pick.

28 days was pretty gruesome. Right after watching it I talked about it to a few friends who hadn't seen it. They thought I was wacked... LOL That was a kewl flick, but gruesome.

28 Days Later is the horror flik you want /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

BTW... Haven't seen true romance.... It's in my netflix queue now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif looks like a winner.

Also added...
The Experiment. German made flik about a true story of an experiment at Stanford University that put regularmpeople in a mock prison situation as prisoners and guards. They had to stop the experiment...

I also updated my list with a few more documentaries like Fahrenheit 9/11, Bowling For Columbine and OutFoxed: as well as Spellbound and SuperSize Me. Added The Inredibles, and a couple from HBO, OZ and Curb Your Enthusiasm. That Larry David kills me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif

How'd I forget Blade Runner?

Is the original version still available? The one with Decker's (Harrison Ford) commentaries/voice over. The director's version doesn't have it.
