I got my hands on some 7 cell Mag-num-Star krypton lamps for a dollar each. I am presently running one in a 2C Mag modded to run three CR123s. I am running it with three LI-Ion 16340's I get about 0.81 amps draw with a fresh set of batteries. It is not driving it that hard. How much abuse can I heap on this lamp?

I drove it in a PT40 with three 14500 cells and a dummy but it is horrible in that reflector setup. The tiny lens in the end of the lamp casts the beam on the wall in a long string :green: A seven cell PR20 lamp does not look that much better over a standard PT40 and four alkalines.

I guess the next logical step is to sacrifice one to four 18650's

Interesting. I'm running a 5-cell stock Mag krypton bulb in my dads 2C w/ 3x CR123A's. I've put 4 hours on the bulb already and turned it on and off hundreds of times. I'd say a 7 cell xenon bulb is pretty underdriven and could stand one more CR123A at most. Or try running it on 3x 3.7V rechargable lithiums.

I'd love a 7 cell bulb.. I keep blowin 6 cell bulbs with my 8aa eneloops. Got an extra? It's my B-day!!!

Happy B day. :drunk: I don't have any extras but if you know someone in Norwich New York, there is a dollar store that should have about 15-20 on the shelf for a buck each. I won't get back there for about six months.

The Mag-Num Star has a lens in the tip of the lamp that makes it kind of crappy for small reflectors like a PT 40. It needs something large like a Mag size or better.

The PR20 lamp, 8.63 volt .5 amp, 4.3 watts nominal is what I first used, It is not terribly bright even driven at 12 ish volts but it doesn't flash out. It is better than a 2C lamp on normal batteries.

Which dollar store in Norwich? (there are 3).I'll be down there on the 23rd and will pick them up if anybody wants them.I don't use them but would be glad to get them and send them out at cost+ shipping.

I just saw some of these brand new in a Batteries Plus in Terre Haute, Indiana. New package style and everything. Odd they had brand new ones for a very limited production rare light.

Hi PELIDON,
Yeah that is odd
BTW thanks for the heads up in Norwich.I don't know what you do for a living but you must put a lot of miles on a car!!!:naughty:

The company I work for makes equipment for the pharmaceutical industry. No samples  Actually we will make anything for a buck. We have modded weenie wagons (hot dog vendor carts) to making sculptures for state parks.

Sometimes I wish I was driving to some of these places. Longer to get there but less hassle.
