Ok, I need a little help. I want a backup for my EDC which is a 6P or 9P(depending on my mood, but soon to be the L5). I can't decide between the E1e+new KL1 or the L1. I like the dual power of the L1, but I've heard some bad stuff about bad tints of the L1(and I don't want that). The combo would be shorter and smaller overall that the L1(Ithink). They are both close in price with the combo being a bit more. I am leaning toward the combo, but the dual power thing is nice. How do they compare on beam quality, throw, etc...? I know battery life is better with the L1, which is always a plus in my book. I've heard really good things from CPF'ers on the combo as well as the L1. If anyone could help me compare, I would really appreciate it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

The E1e+KL1 is still shorter. The 4th-generation KL1 is a throw light, whereas the L1 is still an NX05 optic based flood light. Depends whether you want long range throw or short range flood.

I've heard from my preferred reseller that the 2004 edition of the L1 has much less of a tint problem since they switched to the high dome Luxeons. He wasn't wrong either when he said my KL1s were white.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

E1e w/new Kl1 + Don (McGizmo)'s two stage tailcap switch?

-john

John, I think you've hit the nail on the head. I did one of those "I could've had a V8!" smacks to my head. Of course!! How much are his twostage tailcaps and how do I get one?

Well, I noticed he has a couple of different tailcaps and asked about it here.

His tailcaps are about $45-$50 ea. with the two stage setup.

It looks like you can get them from Don directly or from Wayne's Shoppe.

Personally, I like the sleekness of his "bald" tailcap.

Note you need to figure out what resistor you want. There is info about runtime/brightnes with different values in this post.

Good luck!
