SF L5 on rechargables?

I just got my hands a Surefire L5

Now I'm looking for the best rechargable battery solution for this light
I've looked it up before and found conflicting information

Is it better to run it off a 17670 or a two RCR123a's

I've been told Two RCR123a's will cook the Lux V and i've been told it's the correct Vf of the L5

The searches told me conflicting information ...
What do you guys run your L5 on

Run it on one 17670. Longer runtime than on two RCR123 and no risk of cooking the LED/converter. It runs in full regulation for about an hour.

I run mine on 17670. When I was searching for information about the use of rechargeables with the L5 I was told it would be save to run it with 2x RCR123 if the output stays the same. If the output would grow significant it would not be regulated anymore but direct drive and therefore bad for the LED. I hope I reproduced the information correct since it is a while now. Anyway, to be on the safe side one should use 17670.

I've just started using the Battery Junction, Tenergy rechargeable RCR123A's, 3.0 volts, 900mAh. It seems to be performing well. Anybody got any words for the wise for me, or conflicting info? What advantage would there be to using the 17670's?

I have been using the same Tenergy 900mAh RCR123's with no ill effects. I tested especially hard on the the old L4, gets really hot in a hurry, but never had any problems (4th straight month). I have used it at work several times and constantly drain the battery from full til it quits (no worries yet concerning explosion). I think the 3.0V Li-ions are okay, I just wouldn't use the 3.6V though.. might mess up the electronics.

I just thought of an advantage of 3.0V RCR123's over 17670.. they fit in the spare battery carriers that Surefire offers.:thumbsup:

I got a C2 with a KL5 running one 18650 that I am very happy with. But you have to get it bored. Well worth it if you plan to use it every day, or heavy use.

17670 all the way! 1 battery is always better than 2 in my opinion. No worries about matching cells or anything. And they run a LONG time!

1x17670 or 1x18650 is the best configuration IMO when my L5 was still around. Heavy usage use the 18650 but it wont fit the L5 body unless u use a leef c-c body. Ligyhthound got those newer c size bodies for much longer runtime.

The KL5 head can be used on compatible 2- and 3-cell lights.
So the head can handle up to 9 volts. That means 2x 3.7V (4.2V charged) RCR123s are ok and that's what I'm using for more than one year now. No problems at all. No need for lower capacity 3.0V cells.
