I'm planning on using the best emmiter I can find and a DB1000 for one, and maybe going a little crazy for the next unit. Like a DB1250 or 1333. I'm using Kiu's turbosink units and this will run on 3 or 4 cells. Am I on the right track or should I try something else? Your opinions & suggestions welcome(and probably needed /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif)

Go with a 5 watt luxeon with a DB833. I think the big reflector is wasted with a Lux3.

Hi Kakster,I agree with you about the 3watter. I have a KT-2 and I thought that might give me better heat sinking than a KT-4 and let me run a "hotter" board but I could be wrong.

You could be right there. I dont have a KT2, but i think it lacks the shock isolation of the KT4? Either way, most of the heat generated will be by the LuxV. Downboys tend to run cool in my experience, but i havent run one with a LuxV at those levels before.
I would reccommend smearing the pedestal with thermal grease, taking care not to push any through to the reflector itself.

Probably a good idea about the thermal grease. You are right about KT-2-no shock isolation & I hope better heat sinking. I read your post about your Katokichi modules still holding up well & it is good to know that the DB833 is probably a sane choice. I'm hoping that with a good bin and a hotter board, I can make a "poor mans" photon king or something appoaching it. Of course,I realize that may be a bit optimistic /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif
