some friends of mine have a big shed, i want to tie a light to a piece of rope so there will ALWAYS be a light ready to search for tools/parts etc.

most of the shed can be illuminated form the same spot, so a light on a rope is no problem really.(much better then 'has anyone seen the flashlight'?)

cheap bright weatherproof 'ish' im thinking the husky 2 D.?

anything else i should consider?

Well, the Husky would be good to spot something in the far corner of the shed, but I'm thinking you would want a light that has a really bright flood?

Maybe something with a P7 or MC-E. Do you have a battery preference or cost budget?

I think one or two LED lanterns hanging from some rope would be more useful than a single light with such a narrowish beam?

Is the light going to stay on the rope or is it just the holder?
Is the light going to act as the room light?(Ceiling Bounce?)
I imagine you'll want something with more flood than throw.
How big is your shed? Open or Closed in? Does it get very cold where you live?

How about a solar powered LED array.

I've had a couple of these operating out in the yard since last summer, lighting a remote parking area, and I have no complaints (they have just recently emerged from a snow covering).

It would help if the shed had some southern exposure in order to better charge the batteries.

Here is an earlier thread on this solar LED array: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=193401&highlight=costco+solar+array+led

The Husky 2D would be great, but I think what might work even better would be a Dorcy Focusing Lamp/Lantern for under $10 from Walmart. It is very bright and the beam is adjustable from a wide flood to a narrow spot. It runs on 4 D batteries which is great because it has an incredibly long runtime and depending on how much you use it, you may not need to change the batteries for 6-12 months. I have had mine for over 5 years and it has been a very reliable light and never had any problems.
