Hello, I am building something like a light tank for a short film I'm planning to shoot soon. I will be using white led strips on a 50x70cm cardboard. the led strip is supposed to be powered with 12 volts. So my question is, should I use 8 AA ni-mh batteries or 10 AA ni-mh batteries. The batteries are rated 1.2v but after charging they measure 1.42v. Would it harm the led strips if I use 10 AA batteries to power them?

well when charged they will show that high unloaded but with a load the voltage will drop.

have thought about using NiZn batteries? there is a company that has made strides in getting higher cycle life and it being the same as NiCd or NiMh. they have a voltage of 1.6v which would mean you could get away with using 8 of them for 12.8v.

another thing, what is the current rating of the light strip?

Thanks for the answer, evilsizer. I didn't even know that NiZn batteries existed and available in AA sized form. Thanks for letting me know. I made a search about NiZn batteries and it appears that although their voltage rating is high, mah rating is lower than NiMh batteries, and both types of batteries carry about the same amount of energy. I have a lot of eneloops and other brand lsd nimh batteries that I use in my electronic devices and photo/video equipment, I don't think a switch to NiZn batteries is necessary for me right now.

The led stripe I use draws 0.35 ampere per meter. I bought a roll locally without doing much research, if you have any suggestions on led strips, please let me know. Since I am planning to use the leds for video work, I am especially looking for good quality high lumen high cri daylight leds but I don't want to buy cheap hong kong leds, there are just too bad reviews about them.

ah, thought you were looking at buying the batteries. i was just tring to spread the word after i stumbled on them, thinking about trying them out since they are said to be ECO friendly vs the others.

as for led strips, i haven used any but this site has some i might try

there was another site but lost its address, need to dig agian. both sites looked to have quality strips but then you never know how high quality they are till after using them. if you find the one you have is good post up some pics of long term usage. that way you can keep track of how fast them dim at their rated current/voltage.

actually if I knew about these batteries before putting my money in eneloops, I'd buy them for my flashes. as far as I could read on stobist.net they are capable of giving more power, faster flash cycles etc. I am suprised that this is the first time I hear about these batteries. I will spread the word about them.
