I have a Surefire 9P ANIB, that has been used only to test it. It is an early model with round no logo body, round head, and Laser Prod. tailcap. Not as aesthetically pleasing as newer models...well to me anyway.

I'm not a collector and use my other surefires regularly. All are 6V models (Z-2,6P, and C2). I got the 9P ( I wanted more lumens) at a gun show years ago but have never carried it, as through the years LED technology gave me the horse power I needed with out using more batteries:eek:

I mentioned to one of the guys at work who is into flashlights that I was thinking about using it and he told me he wouldn't if it was his. So what do you guys think? Sell/trade her and get something newer (prettier), or just mod her and use her? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You've posted a nice pic of this in the /Rare-Unusual/ SF thread - looks like a nice kit: box, papers, original cells, everything; it's a beauty. Definitely for a collector IMO - for something moddable or more 'useful', I'd sell or trade this one off. Or just hold on to it and have something else for a 'user'. :)

Those are new batteries I had and put in the box for the pic. The ones that came were used awhile back in one of my 6 volts, and were not that strong. Everything else is original though.

Personally I wouldn't collect flashlights as an investment, so for me if it holds no true investment value (to me). I know the "collector" factor is present, but its his loss and your light :) I run everything I have at least one set of batteries, or in some cases one full tank (I also collect lanterns) it may hamper the ability to resell as a new item, but in most cases I derive a certain amount of pleasure from my collections functionality, so even if I have a sealed new item, I open it and fire it up....... Sorry light collectors :sick2:

Use it or lose it

If you prefer LED lights then sell it for an unreasonable amount of money and buy something better. IMO flashlights are tools and tools are built to be used

If you are going to/want to use it, you could easily sell that light, and buy a used 9P, and still have money left over for a nice drop-in or even another Surefire, and a collector would have nice piece for there collection. If I was made of money, I'd buy it in a heart beat.

I have several mint "museum" pieces, and while I may mess with them in the house a bit for satisfaction, I wouldn't "seriously" use a light in that condition...they're getting harder and harder to find, for the exact reason you posted this thread.

Member auto-giro has a WTB for a mint 9P Round body in the MP...
