I bought one of these online and when I got it, it flickered on all modes but high. So i emailed seller and they sent me a new one for free....and same problem as previos one. So now I have two lights that kinda work.....:mad:

Being the way I am, I take everything apart to see how it works and such, and noticed it looks like this uses a p60 module.

^supposedly xm-l t6, but I dont know.

Anyhow it has 5 modes and as I said 4 are useless, unless you like strange flickering, so I was condidering maybe getting a new module. But there are just so many and i'm not sure which one to go with. I dont have 18650s yet but if there is a module that works well on either 2 cr123 or 18650 that would be nice. Any thoughts on maybe use or aspherical lens on this light?
 
Try tightening the clicky switch, use needle nose pliers or snap-ring pliers. Also, clean & lube the tailcap threads. I have several of similar lights and all of them needed some tightening and lube. As far as trying new drop-ins. One budget favorite is the XML 3 mode [H-M-L] from Manafont, the modes are well spaced and the emitter used is a neutral white[at least the two I have anyway]. If you want more throw consider an XRE based drop-in [SolarForce, Lumens Factory, Dereelight, Nailbender Customs]

Ive tried cleaning the threads and trouble shot it. Bypassing the switch makes no difference, it still flickers, so im fairly certain its not the switch.
 
In that case I'd say you are correct, the drop-in has an issue. The good news is that you have LOTS of nice quality drop-ins to choose from. If you're up for a challenge you could buy a new driver from ShiningBeam or Illumination Supply and replace the original.
 
Yea I tried a new set of surefires, made no difference. Just dont understand why it only works fine on high.

maybe there lies your problem - I don't know of any XM-L drop in that takes 2x batteries, as you indicated that you tried a new set (2) surefires? if so then the poor old XM-L would take a beating as they can only take 4.2v at best - try a 18650 (if its not fried)
 
sadly I dont have any 18650s. I thought that p60 xml drop-ins could take up to 6v?
 
I dont see anything on the driver board. So being run at 6v works fine on high, but is the flickering on lower modes the 6v overpowering the regulation?
 
Well it's doing something not good - it's your choice mate but I can pretty much guarantee that that drop in is not made for anything more than 4.2v at most - I don't know why it's flickering on the lower settings but when it's on high it must be on steroids, ether way it would not be good for it.
This is all I can add - if you do some research yourself on XML drop ins you would see that no one seems to be making/selling them anywhere - if you find some let me know as I've been looking myself.

Solarforce makes 6v drop ins for xm-l.
 
When you say flickering, how fast? Maybe you are seeing the pwm used on lower levels?
 
Ok that isnt pwm.
So you are using 2x cr123=6v? I agree with trying an 18650. Also I have a Solarforce L2P and an L2X both using the manafont 3mode xml drop-in mentioned above. They both draw 3.5-4A on high (checked with thick wires to multimeter). I really like this drop-in.
 
On another topic about this light, anyone know what the host may be generally called or atleast where i may get other parts for it? I see its the same host as a deft-edc and I was just curious if anyone may know.
 
Just thought I would share a update about this light. I finally got my pila charger and some AW 18650s, and the light seems to work fine now. So im guessing the p60 wasnt actually rated to handle the 6v from the 2xcr123s.
