Looks to me like SL has deleted the rubber grips on the new ones. Has anyone held both? Is there a big difference?
Did SL make any other changes?

I have the original SL 4aa LED. It has no rubber grips. The side with the "STREAMLIGHT 4AA" displayed has the raised panel painted black on the otherwise yellow flashlight. It may look like a rubber grip, but it isn't.

The other side of the flashlight has the UL listings etc. embossed with raised letters. If you can't get a grip on that, a piece of rubber won't help you.

They have been increasing the resistance of the resistors in the head. My original draws 90 ma per LED. It is insanely bright, but the reflector melts after a half hour of continuous use. Mine only has a small 12 ohm resistor in series with each LED. Others have said theirs also has one larger power resistor in series with all LEDs.

If you have one of the originals, you can convert it from insane to sane by replacing one of the AA cells with a dummy.

Thanx, Eluminator, exactly what I needed to know. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
