I can say this I would slam a door on my D3 and not worry a bit I will not do the same with the TL3 as I am positive it will bend. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah? When you drop that D3 and the bulb goes south and you spend $23-27 for another one, instead of $5.00, you can take comfort in the fact that you can slam a door on the body and it won't dent.

Last I heard, SF had discontinued the 9P, again. I think the only three cell SF that takes the classic LA's is the C3...I could be wrong, though...

I like my TL-3, it's a good light. I wish there was a holster made for it...

I can take comfort that my D3 has taken many falls and still has the same lamp in it, also I will get a new reflector with my new SF lamp. If you don't think the reflector will yellow and brown I will show you some picts of well used lights. Also price is not a consideration for me I will take the better product over the better price any day. If you are worried about the money and have a tight budget then like I said the TL3 is a very nice light for $60.

BC has a good point about the cost of replacement bulbs. Whether there is a need in use to have a supply of cheap bulbs doesn't appear to be the case for the SureFires and it is too early to tell for the TL-3.

I guess to test this you would need several of each TL-3 and D3, and a load of spare lamps - subject the flashlights to a drop test from a specified height onto a specified surface until the bulbs are damaged or broken. Some would be tested whilst on and others whilst off.

The attraction of the TL-3 is that it is midway between a standard 9P and an SRTH in throw. It is not a killer of either light, but you can't get an SRTH for $60!

The TL-3 is a nice way of getting a lot of reach in a small light.

Cheers,

Richard

JohnK,

I asked the question for free - I don't get paid by anybody to be here and post. It's like 01:30. I'd want time and a half for this!
If SureFire were paying me I seriously doubt I would be allowed to post on CPF. So one way to get rid of me would be to help get me a job at SureFire!

I asked a question, you have not answered it.
Thinking about it, the styling on the outside of the TL-3 body means that bar stock is more likely. I wanted to be sure though.

Has anyone ever seen how Streamlights are made outside the USA? Would they allow a factory tour?

And how many Streamlight TL-3s can a person buy for what just one Sure Fire is going to cost?

Answer: About 3 or 4.

A D3 or 9P are only $77 that is only $17 more than a TL3. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And just where would a person buy one of these, D3 or 9P lights? I have not been able to find one for sell anywhere. You sure can’t go to Sure Fire’s web page and buy one.

I can give you more than a dozen sources to purchase a TL-3. I am only asking for one for the 9P.

James

JohnK, your comments carry too much of an accusatorial nature, and is baiting. Edit it to within CPF standards.

It's hillarious watching Al put out the fires. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hahaha.gif

John, he is a tester for SF and gets free lights.

I put a lot more weight into what someone who test lights for a company says than I do to people who praise a light they have never owned.

You can't buy most of SureFire's products from their website - they have far too many options.

Google searching found these pretty quickly:

These are not all the links that came up from the searching. I just clicked on a few to get an idea of what's out there.

I must have used different search words than you did. Obviously the D3 and 9P SF can be purchased. Looking at all the sights you listed the cheapest D3 was $95.00 and the cheapest 9P was $81.99. That is 37% and 27% more than the cost of a TL-3.

The bottom line is that there is nothing you or anyone is going to say that will change my opnion that Sure Fire flashlights are over priced. The one exception may be the G2.

I am not trying to change your mind but I am curious which Surefire's you own b/c to make a statement that something is over priced I would have to assume you have used and tested the product. Right?

What sort of accessories are available for the TL-3 vs. the 9P? Another question...I don't remember the stated runtimes on my Scorpion bulbs vs say a 6P, but I thought the SL was considerably less and that offset the lower cost on the bulbs...I wonder if that's the case for the TL-3 vs. the 9P?

Maybe someone has those numbers...guess I could run over to Brightguy and check out the runtime on the Scorp bulb, but who knows about the SureFire's?

The Scorpion is rated at 3-5 hours per the manual. I have not seen a spec on the TL3.

I could be wrong on this but I think I read on one of the websites, might have been SureFires Site that there bulbs are rated for 20 hrs. Now the Stinger Line is rated @ 30 hours and while it is true that the Scorpion is rated between 3 - 5 hours there has been quite a few folks on this board who claim that they got more, a few hours I would imagine more. Plus the Scorpion does come with a spare bulb.

I looked into my TL-3 Manual that came with the light and there is no bulb rating that I could see. Also, the TL-3 is shipped with a spare bulb.
