small but powerful

Or the Dereelight DBS, has a bit more throw then the Tiablo A9 due to its bigger and deeper reflector.

For HID, I'm not sure there is anything under £80 and under 1 kg.

How much throw do you want?

This little 10 watt HID will fit in a jacket pocket with no trouble:

Over your budget, but I doubt you will find anything for £80 with the features you ask for.

You might be able to roll your own with a Maglite+10w HID within that price, but nothing off-the-shelf will come close to that price/size.

A word about the LED recommendations; while it's true you can focus down a LED and project a spot of light a pretty impressive distance away, I don't find it actually useful. You will be able to see the beam, but it's hard to make out any detail in the area or object you are trying to light up. The light from an LED is very contrasty, making shadows darker and anything in the foreground more "glarey".

I wouldn't recommend an LED for anything over 50 metres.

Save a bit more and buy a HID.

I paid about £200 for mine from Fenix-store.com.

Quite a way over your budget, I know, but well worth the money.

I think the best place to get them is directly from Dereelight, go to the link above and go from there, you could also send them a question first about ordering.

 so which has the longest throw ?
I have been on the site and looked..........just want to make sure i get the best.

I think the 2 Stage Digital is the longest throwing one(though not by much). About £86, so a bit over your budget.

For that same amount of money, you could probably make a aspheric Lens mod that will out throw the DBS.

I think the DBS would out throw the Striker VG(7000 Lux VS 20000+ Lux). Even the Seoul P4 modded Striker VG will get beaten throw wise by the Dereelight DBS.

Can anyone tell me how the DEREELIGHT DBS compares in throw to those cheep H3, 3.5 milion CP torches ???

Based on the beamshots in Gunner12's link, a 3.5 million CP spotlight would out throw the DBS. The problem with the "X Million candlepower" spotlights is that they dim after 10-20 minutes of use, making them impractical. There is a light that out throws my 3 million candlepower spotlight, has a laser thin beam, and 4 hour runtime, called the Dorcy Industrial Xenon Lantern. Based on the beamshots I have seen, the Dorcy should easily out throw the DBS.

The "3.5 million CP" torch would out throw the DBS but it's not "pocketable" by any means. If you have experience with other automotive bulb based spotlights the DBS will likely not impress you. The DBS is impressive because of it's small size & weight, efficiency and it throws farther than any other non-aspheric LED light its size.
