I shall not yet give into to the notion that small task lighting may only reside in the LED arena. Zounds! all ye young burners of tungsten! Let's get Medieval about it. And if not Medieval, let us harken back to some old school with a little HotWire smack down thrown in. Say...circa 1944.

I've been fiddling about with this old German Pertrix for a while now. I thought I had it figured out with a Radio Shack #46 6.3V 250mA screw base lamp. Alas, it didn't really sing and give me the "ye haws" though. Just sheer luck found close to the solution I was looking for in our old friend, the KPR112 made famous as one of the first classic HotWires in the form of 3s CR123 in a Mag2C.

The KPR112 fits. Not perfect. It's about 2mm too tall but it works just fine. (I really need a screw based 6.0V .650mA lamp.) This old steel war dog gets to barking like a springy pup on 2 AW RCR123s.

He's going to take on flood challengers, the Mag4C using the magical and overdriven XPR103, the incredible Draco set to power level 6 and finally one of the best task lights I've ever seen, the CentraLED.

Admittedly, the Pertrix Lion's strength is not beam intensity.

The Pertrix Lion seems to do well in the task of rendering imagery with even lighting in a close quarters environment. Looking at it now I could have exposed it a bit longer to bring it up too what it was doing in the real world. I wanted to lock everything in and not over-expose that CentraLED.

Here's the mighty midget mercenary laying about his rewards.

And a bonus shot. A glowing yellow bell pepper.

Ahh, hotwire MES/E10 torch mods. Dear to my heart.

Do you have RS Components in USA?

They sell a 5.2V 850mA 85 lumen MES halogen 655-9255
Good for 2 CR123, I've found

They sell a 6V 700mA 85 lumen MES halogen 655-9047
Good for 2 16340, I've found

and a 5.2V 500mA 48 lumen MES halogen 655-9249
haven't tried this one yet.

Then, of course, there is the famous GH44 from Reflectalite (6V 10W 201 lumens), perfect for 6AA in vintage 2D tinplate torches.

I'm happy to see your appreciation. Something good happened last night. While fiddling around with it the KPR112 decided to seat fully into the lamp holder. Very cool. I'm really liking this light a lot. It's one of those that if I could hand a few out for folks to actually use I'm sure they'd like it.

I see that first lamp on the Radio Shack site. It's called an HP50 over here. I had an HPR50 and tried it knowing it might not be the best idea. Interesting little lamp made in Hungary. It runs beautifully at spec. It was standard in a re-chargeable incan I have. It didn't like the two RCR123s.

I don't know what MES/E10 means. I'll look it up along with that 16340 battery you mentioned. Also, I can't remember which vintage lights you showed us modified. I'll look that up too.

Here's a couple more Pertrix lights waiting patiently.

And a really nice Rayovac 3D.

Beatiful photos!! My wife purchased me an antique copper flashlight years ago, and I thought of it as just a decoration! Now I realize that "new life" can be breathed into this beautiful light!

Thanks!:twothumbs
