Was at a different Academy store earlier today and spent 19.99 + tax for this S&W Galaxy "great for Pilots, Techs etc."

It is black, made of aluminum and what I found so far is NOT Waterproof!!! Almost right away it fell from my pocket into a pot of water I just set down for the dogs. They fall didn't seem to phase it, but the water funked up the switch a bit. I SEEM to have got that straighten out.

It has a push button (rather small) on the body up near the head with three modes. Mode one, solidly on and which I find it to be not quite as bright as my Infinity Ultra with a slightly used Lithium. Mode two sets the light to flashing pretty rapidly which I guess would be useful for something? Mode three is off (mine has an ever so faint glow - was much brighter before I used computer duster spray on the switch).

It is 5 and 3/4" long, just under 3/4" at the head and just over 5/8" at the tail. Both ends screw off and both have o-rings. However water can migrate in around the switch button easily. It has a ring for a lanyard etc. at the tail end. I'll try to get some pics up next week as I just can't upload from here.

Poof!

My only question to myself is... "WHAT THE HE77 WERE YOU THINKING DUDE?"

No, I figure I can find SOME use for it.

Wow, I bet dropping it was a close call. Those lights look nice, but I've stayed away from them simply because of the S&W name. Let's just say that equipment bearing the Smith & Wesson logo (flashlights, knives, optics) are not the most reliable.

It's unfortunate that a name with such a legacy is now licensed to market low grade products, but I'm sure you can always use the flashlight on those late night calls to the bathroom. Just be sure not to drop it in the toilet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

PJS...I bought one of these lights a couple months ago at a local Academy Sports and posted some thoughts on it in the LED forum. Like you, I'm sure I'll find some use for it eventually, but for a 3 LED light the output is pathetic! It's noticeably dimmer than my Ultra-G! Not bad for a nightstand light or a flashing signal light of some sort. The up-side is that as dim as it is, it should run for quite a long time on 3 N cells...

HEY HEY HEY now !!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Lets not dog S&W too much. I agree, they should stick to guns. I dont like their knives or flashlights.

BUT.........

I have a 9mm S&W 6592.... and it is BY FAR the nicest gun I have ever known. It has NEVER EVER jammed !!!. It is the ONLY gun I , or any of my freinds have , that has never jammed.

My friend has a Beretta 92FS,,, and its junk compaired to my S&W. You just cant beat thier guns.

Mine is about 5 years old. And has had 1,000's of rounds through it.

I havent had the pleasure of playing with any of their newer guns.

A pic of it can be found here.

I have a Galaxy too, and I found it to be a bit on the dim side for a "3-banger". But those size N batteries it suckles from ought to last a long time, and the LEDs aren't overdriven.

A page I put up about the Galaxy is right here if you're interested.
