Inova has stepped up to CREE emitters for the T series for '08

Looks to be geared for runtime.
What bin is not known at the moment, or if CREEs' will be used throughout entire lineup....let's hope.

With Inova super tough quality, should be a winner!

edit 12/14: sorry to say, it has come to my attention, that Inova is stuck in 2005. (no CREEs...:shakehead)

Re: CREE and Inova ~ finally!

Inova: Oustanding built quality, excellent warranty, reliable as hell, Made in U.S.A, relatively cheap and now with Cree! What's not to like??

Re: CREE and Inova ~ finally!

I must be psychic, I see an Inova T3 and T4 in my future.

The T3 will make a superb Carbine mounted light with a Cree and the T4 will make a great belt mounted duty light.

Now if Streamlight would start using Cree life would be complete.

Re: CREE and Inova ~ finally!

I have a K2 T4 and find it too dim for my tastes. That's why it was never carried on my belt. Can't wait to see what the Cree T4 will look like. Inova's are tough but not bright enough for me.

Re: CREE and Inova ~ finally!

I've never owned an Inova, but a buddy of mine has had one for years, and he is just as hard on lights as I am (thats bad) and that thing is tough as nails!!!!! Just always been a bit dim for my tastes. I will have to look for this light and see about buying him one!!! This ROCKS!!!!

:crackup::crackup::crackup:

You guys make me laugh. I can remember when the Pelican M6, Streamlight TL2. The Inova T series with TIROS & Gladius where all the rage and everyone thought these things were killer bright.

Now we all cmplain that they are all too dim (I agree), Just got my first Q5 module and everything else seems to be so dark .

As technology marches on we get so spoiled

Re: CREE and Inova ~ finally!

I doubt they will replace my favorite two cell lights which are the X5 and Tiros X0, but I will probably pick up one of the T series Crees, I have been thinking about buying a T1 all week. Now I will just wait for the Cree. Thanks, I was on my way tomorrow morning to pick one up.

Re: CREE and Inova ~ finally!

About time! I always liked the look and feel of Inova lights.

I have to say though that there is no freaking way in hell that the T1 is going to be 100 lumens for 5 hours. Isn't the T1 a one cell light? I'd be suprised if it was 100 lumens for over 1 hour to be honest. Considering Fenix has the most efficient circuits on the market and they haven't been able to match that kind of runtime.

T1 used to be a one cell light. The current model is 2 cells, and I suspect that the new model will be also.

Re: CREE and Inova ~ finally!

Welcome to the Party, Inova !

Now, how about upgrading the X1.

Re: CREE and Inova ~ finally!

Hopefully they are not built too much just as long runtime lights. There are a couple of SF led lights I would like to have, and I would love to see a Cree Inova T3 and T5.... but after having a couple of Q5 lights, I am not ready to step down in brightness just to have a cree Inova.

Re: CREE and Inova ~ finally!

does inova measure lumens at the emitter?

my first led light was an inova x5 and that thing is built like a TANK!

Sorry to ruin the party, but part of this info is not correct. I can' tell you where I got my info- and won't- but Inova will not be using Cree. They will be using an LED that (according to my source) beats the crap out of the Cree X-lamp, probably the new Lumileds K2-TFFC

I know my post will start a firestorm, but it's the truth. For the record-
I'm not questioning BOG's integrity or intelligence. The lumen figures he gave are correct, the runtime figures are exactly one hour too long in most cases (T4 is the exception). Also, FYI, Inova, starting with the new models, will be using a more sophisticated chip to drive the LEDs, one that drops into a moon mode after a period of constant brightness.

The new lights will be out in February.

the lumen ratings for the new lights are NOT lumens measured at the LED, they are lumens as measured by an integrating sphere at approx. 1 meter distance, FYI.

The new T1 uses two CR-123, as does the current model. The runtime will be 4 hours constant brightness, followed by two hours of "moon mode".

BTW: not to pick on anyone, but Fenix does not have the "most efficient circuits on the market"; they, like all manufactirers, buy LED drivers from what is commercially available, from companies like Zetex and Epsilon. Cost is always a factor, and when selecting an LED driver Fenix weighs performance against selling price.

If you compare the runtime graphs of the LOD-CE and some other Fenix lights to, for example, the Inova T3, the HDS EDC Ultimate 60 or the Pelican 2390, you'll see the difference.

I hope and pray that you are wrong, because the K2-TFFC by no means can beat the crap out of the Cree's. They are less than half as efficient as the current Q5's, let alone the R2's and higher.
