So I\'ve got all these Maglites ...

Which used to satisfy my flashlight desires, but since my corruption here I've started saving for an ARC LS (or maybe an ARC AAA in the short term just to temper my appetite).

Anyway - are there some relatively inexpensive and easy mods I can do to my 3D, 2D, 2AA and 2AAA Maglites, including better incandescent bulbs, to keep them at least somewhat useful (I mean, I have at last count 3 3D, 1 2D, 3 2AA and 2 2AAA - the last being my favorite as it is as bright as the 2AA but much smaller) rather than relegating them to the obsolete heap? I've seen the Opalec newbeam and I think Inretech has a LS mod for the 2AA as well, but both are a little pricey given my savings for better lights in general. How about the Nextstar bulbs in the 2AA and perhaps the 3AAA? Any other better bulbs for the D size maglites as well?

All suggestions for this newbie are appreciated!

Take your 3D and fill it with 4 C's and overdrive the krypton 3D bulb with the 4 C's.

For the 2D, use three CR123 batteries and a KPR112 bulb from Radio Shack($1.50). There are a few different ways to make the batteries fit. The first one I did I used newspaper & tape, and a piece of tinfoil in the tail to make contact.
For the 3D I used three 3toD adaptors with 9AA alkalines driving a KPR118 bulb from Radio Shack($1.50).
