It's my understanding that if I replace the alk. AA batteries in my flashlights with lithium AA that the shelf life of the flashlight will be much longer. This would be the best thing to do for lights which are kept in the glove box or night stand for emergencies, right?? What would be a good price for AA lithium??

Yep...

Unless you have Mr Bulk's LGI, in which case you may not want to put Li-AAs in there... And you don't want to put Li-AAs in the Reactor III...

So far, if it's incandescent, you don't have to worry about it. But some LSs can be quite picky...

And usually, if you are paying more than $2.50 for 1 Li-AA, you're paying too much...

The Surge is kind'a wierd. So weird, that I don't think there's any other battery holder out there for an incandescent that can slate a 4x2 series/parellel channel together. I've ran mine off of lithiums before (by mistake); it can run. But the bulb is absolutely raging bright. It can melt the solder around it and desolder itself. Someone here also had the reflector melted on him because the bulb was so hot from being overdriven by lithiums.

Needless to say, I don't think you'll have to worry about something like this. Most AA-based incandescent lights out there are 4x-AA in series at the most, and the Surge, with its doubled current, is one of the very few out of the ordinary...

The only other one I know of is the discontinued 8 cell Energizer Double Barrel.

I was just going to mention that light, but didn't know if the Bunny's making those anymore... I guess they were discontinued then...

Are the 6 cells also discontinued?

A side note: Greg at Bright Guy contacted Streamlight and they advised that the new Task Lights not originally designed for Lithiums (1L and 2L) should NOT be used with AA Lithiums, and it will VOID the warranty.
