Has anyone had any experience with any of the SOG multi-tools? How is the flip function? Are the tools sturdy? I would be grateful for feedback. THANKS

I have the EOD Power lock in black and have had a ParaTool. I like both but much prefer the Powerlock. It has small flip down covers over the cut outs where the tool are. This allows you to realy put some pressure on the tool with out the edges digging into your palm. It is easy to flip open with one hand. It is not loose like a Balisong though so no tricks LOL The only thing I don't like is that the knife is chisel ground. I prefer a more tradtional blade grind. This is ok though as I always carry a knife. The pliars are great and the tool is built like a tank. I love it, I've broken Gerber, and Leatherman tools but not a SOG.

The Paratool has traveled everywhere with me, but it's dated and not as useful as many other multitools. It is nice and small and has the essential tools, and I have used the unique pliers at an angle, in tight spots. However, the tools don't lock, which can be a serious knuckle buster.

I was just looking at the PowerLock in the store last weekend, and was impressed. Their interlocking gear system, called "Compound Leverage" is smooth and easy to use, and helps it flip open. All the tools lock easily, too, and, like Patrick Hayes, I like the flip cover over the tools, too.

The downside is that while it is sturdy, it's not small or light. Due to these two reasons, I will continue to carry the Leatherman Wave, almost as tough and useful, in a smaller, lighter form factor. Also, if you're looking at the Powerlock, check out the Swisstool, too.

I ditto Patrick's comments...I have the EOD Powerlock as well and it's great. It's a bit larger and heavier than the Wave as Daloosh said, but I like mine. Very, very useful and comfortable to use with the handle covers. (Those are removeable if you want to, btw...)

I've had a SOG Power Plier for years and used and abused it. Still in great shape and the knife is razor sharp. Really tough file and saw too.

I've had a Powerlock for a year or so. It's OK but a bit clunky. The scissors are not very good cutters IMHO. The screwdrivers are too short. The pliers are not comfortable for fine work. Also, as I found out recently, those folding covers pull off when cranking down on the pliers.

For good things. It has the compound leverage which works well. Knife steel seems pretty good compared to leatherman. Also file & saw are good material & well made. The socket tool is innovative & could be useful. Locks work very well. Also, tools can replaced on your own without sending tool back to manf. Case is well-designed & innovative.

Overall pretty good but big & clunky. I use my Leatherman Pulse for carry. Maybe I'll consider the Wave but there's not a lot more tools for the extra 3 ounces of weight.
