I was looking around some web sites and i found some cheap solar panels that can be used to charge cell phones. I was just wondering if anyone know of some kind of solar powered device that has an outlet that i could actually plug house hold items into. Hopefully something thats around $100 or less. I know solar power technology has been around for awhile, but it seems like its not improving fast enough.

Portable solar power panels don't put out anywhere near that level of energy. Larger panels that connect to auto/marine-type batteries usually sell for well beyond $100; Amazon has a 60-watt set that sells for $300-ish.

Another option would be a small household wind turbine; Amazon also carries a 400 watt turbine for $500: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000C1Z2VE/?tag=cpf0b6-20

A popular alternative is to use 12 volt appliances so you can omit the DC to AC inverter.

Cheers,
