O.K., What sort of a drop-in do I need for a SolarForce L2 host that has on/off, high and low functins only? I don't want to signal in an air strike or a helicopter.

What brands of protected 18650 batteries will fit that host, without being too long? Can you trust eBay sellers to give you the straight scoop regarding battery length? Where is a good place to buy them on line?

What is a good, inexpen$ive double charger for the 18650s?

Thanks.

I can't help you with the drop-ins, but lemme save you some reading and recommend the Pila 2 bay charger. You can pick that up somewhere like Lighthound. The 4Sevens charger is known to have a good charge profile, but of course is only a single bay.

As for batteries, I recommend checking out the battery and electronic section, but in general stick with batteries of known quality such as AW or Redilast.

I have an XML 3 mode drop in that I like. Unfortunately I haven't seen any mass produced two mode drop ins.

AW batteries, as mentioned (I've tried my luck with UltraFire protected batts and won't waste any more money on them)

I have an UltraFire WF-139 charger though, and it's worked great for me (and has several good reviews here).

As said, try LightHound.com for these things.

Drop in , what do you want ? Solarforce makes a nice 3 mode XM-L , I have one and its very nice ...
Battery , anything up to and including 18700 , battery length is not really an issue , all pre 2011 models were if anything a little too long , for 2011 and beyond Solarforce shortened the body a little , still , up to 18700 .
Protected or not ?
Sanyo can be had online these days cheap , not protected , or several flavours of the Panasonic .(protected or not)

Xtar does a decent battery , Hi-Max , Solarforce , to name a few , as for charger , well .. Trustfire TR003 , Xtar , Trustfire TR001 , just depends , do some research ! , but my TR003 has been good

Dropins with 2 modes:

- SKU: 7878 from manafont. XP-G R5 on full brightness or 5mm red LED with very low brightness (just enough to find the way to the toilett without waking up anyone else ;) )

-If you can solder or know anyone that can solder: get any xm-l or xp-g that you can find, kick out the driver board and replace it with KD 4x7135 V2 LED Driver 1520mA 17mm for the xp-g or KD 6x7135 V2 LED Driver 2280mA 17mm for the xm-l.
Then connect S2 and S3 to ground and you get a 2 mode dropin.
