Solarforce L2 now with MC-E!!

Just noticed that the Solarforce L2 is now available with MC-E! I won't post the link but it's on Solarforce store and ebay.

Looks like it is single stage and designed to run a single LiIon. $50 seems a pretty good price too.

Just search for "MCE" at solarforcestore. I found it.

I just purchased my L2G-R2M + extension tube + L2-S4 today.

I don't like the fact that input voltage is just 3.7 - 4.2 volts. No 18650 x 2 option.

Did you purchase the 5 mode?

The 2 types are: 3.7V and 4.2-8.4V

You mean the DX one? If so the 3 modes puts me off. I like single stage or mode changing via head twist (such as Eagletac and Fenix Tk10/11).

I hope this Solarforce MC-E drop in is well regulated on an 18650 and has a decent quality beam. Should be a real winner if it is.

I swapped in a 5 mode driver myself :

Now I have a nice L2 mini MC-E - But the R2's still throw much better . For flood , the MC-E drop in is hard to beat , but a single mode MC-E will get HOT on Hi , and I mean HOT , Better Al-foil it before running it , if you though R-2's got warm , wait till you try a MC-E :naughty:

If you dont heatsink it , you may end up cooking the LED or driver ...
So if you get one that is well regulated [ 2.8A ] your going to be generating lots of warmth ...

I look forward to a multi mode MC-E from solarforce , I sure do like there 3.7-4.2v R2 's very much . If they can do the same thing to the MC-E :twothumbs

I doubt the MC-E will survive in a host that small running at ~450 Lumens without a few minutes to cool every 6-7 minutes. My DX MC-E draws ~2.10A, emits 350 Lumens (this is the actual module MrGman tested in his sphere, bigchellis loaned it to him for testing and I bought it off him a couple weeks ago) and gets HOT HOT HOT after a short while on high. The low mode which only draws about .75A is a necessity if you intend to run the MCE for longer than ~3-4 minute runs.

OK I just did a 5 minute run of a MC-E in a L2 body ...

Blue Generic 18650 2200mA BAtt started @ 2.21A finished the run @ 2.13A
Its very warm slash hot , if you run it long enough the entire body will get hot .
@ 5 minutes the tail cap was heating up , id say after 7 minutes there would not be a part of a L2 that was not hot ...

:wave: Single mode MC-E , you can have it ... [ @ 2.8A expect more heat ]

I got a production sample directly from a Solarforce rep and I can say I'm not too impressed with it. The rep told me it's not being pushed to sell because "focus and brightness is not acceptable". I can agree with his assessment as the I don't care much for the floody blob of light it outputs as well as a noticeable clover leaf donut hole it has in the center of the beam. It also got really hot after being on for 3 minutes straight.

Oh and the Solarforce store is not related to Solarforce the company in any way. The Solarforce rep told me that they are a small store in Hong Kong. My personal experience with SolarforceStore's customer service has not been satisfactory (I won't go into the details). Suffice it to say, there are better places to buy Solarforce flashlights from, 2 of which are linked in my signature line below.

Ace, Solarforce told me the same thing. They were having issues focusing the MCE and also heat issues, which is why you don't see much of it. (PS There's a 3rd place to get Solarforce products now:cool:)
