i was inspired by some very similar mods that i saw on cpf and decided to spend my snow day doing this.
i took the dorcy aaa's circuit out, took off the components, and then recreated it but smaller. i bored out the mag's body a little to make it easier to fit. after a few tries and a few hours, i discovered that the circuit still works without the resistor or capacitors and with a different coil that i had (although much dimmer). i don't know if it will have longer runtime or just be less efficient (probably both). here are the pictures:
the circuit, before covering
the setup, covered in hot melt glue
assembled
showing alignment: (i totally messed up the plastic window trying to pop the reflector out, but it's still airtight)
the light on (camera makes it look much bluer as always)
comparison to original dorcy (mine is on the left)
