source for battery springs?

I'm working on a tailcap mod for my twintask 2l, and have a plan, but it requires a different battery retaining spring (you know the weird spiral spring). Where can I get these? Would homedepot lowes, etc have them or will i need to canibalize something usefull?

They're called conical springs, and make possible solid heights as short as the wire diameter. They're usually, IMO, not a typical hardware store item. McMaster-Carr lists some, Century Spring lists a large number, but has a $25 min order.

You can always canibalize the springs from Battery Holders (not adapters/converters). They go for around $0.40 CDN for 4xaa, $1.29CND for 4xD in a local electronic surplus store.

Some on eBay too search for "Battery Holder" (on the Stores section too)

Don't know where you're from, but Sayal Electronics on Victoria Park (Toronto) has a bin of them (look like they're gold plated, with solder tab) sized for AAA or AA, at 25 cents each. You might want to check various surplus outlets.

I can never run out of uses for the spring that comes out of a mag light when you take out the switch assembly. Very handy and shapeable.

Radio Shack has them listed with a RSU# or special order and I think that were several different ones. I have an older catalog too!

Digikey has a number of these. You can find a few at Home depot, etc. There's got to be some place that makes/sells all sorts of springs (like Wolff Springs for gunsmiths) like maybe Small Parts or something. Have you tried a search on the Thomas Register?

Thanks for thinking about offering to carry springs. Most of the stuff I do is trial and error. I never know what size I need till I start putting stuff together. What I would is a big bag of assorted conical springs.

I think if you could put together bags of assorted springs, that would be pretty popular. If the springs in the assortment were identified by size and part number, then when you found the size that worked, you could order more by part number.
