Ever since I joined CPF I've always been interested in the Space Needle II This direct drive light was very popular on CPF back in 2003. I would love to have some current owner's chime in to comment. How does this light compare to the latest high output Crees/SSC? Can the Space Needle II be modernized? Could this kind of direct drive performance even be duplicated with these new ever fragile LED's? Is the LuxV still the king of DD!

I have one that was modded by Milky with a w bin lux v, and I LOVE IT! This and my MR-X are by far my brightest and favorite lights. Unless my eyes deceive me, both were brighter than my malkoff, which is my other brightest LED. If you have a chance, grab one!:twothumbs

a Space Needle II Clone was my first light build. I used the intrcutsions on Charlie's Website and It's been my light i use for everything around the house. Since then I've come into possession of a SN2 Second that Charlie himself built. The one i built definately has a better looking tint to it. When I compare it to my P4 lights It's brighter for sure but not by a whole lot. And the P4's are running at about half the current and again about half the voltage.

I love my SN2's but they're not cutting edge anymore. Everything becomes outdated in time. But I still use mine for everything around the house. It's still just too good of a light to sit on the shelf.

The SN2 is also one of my old favorites.
Back in the days, beamshot comparisons that featured led lights in "throw" contests had the SN2 demolish the competition... How the times have changed.
It was my first led light that could impress pretty much everyone who saw it.

It's also easy to upgrade; I just put a SSC P7 in mine along with a couple SOB750s. It's much brighter and probably runs a little longer too and the beam shape is pretty much the same.

I recently completed a MagSC XW0S MaxFlex with drive table set at 1A.
It makes a small and very useful light. Still love the output of the LuxV... ;)

Kongfuchicken,
So how does that P7 work with the mag reflector?
What heatsink did you use?
Oh and BEAMSHOT!

It works. There is a donut hole that's apparent at medium range but a light orange peal reflector makes it unnoticeable in use.
I posted a couple pictures in another thread in this forum and I honestly don't know if the rules will let me cross reference to that one (that cross-linking rule confused me); here's the link: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showpost.php?p=2388563&postcount=37
If that ain't cool with the mods, I'll remove it.
