Yet another XP-G mod.
This one would have been better if coupled with the McR18S instead of the cut down McR19XR.
I used one of the XP-G's from member Nailbender on the 8mm shoppe board. I spent a good hour filing down the underside of the board to try to get it to focus right with the McR19XR reflector.
I desoldered the Cree from my rare Cree 005 and removed it.
I saw on the bottom of the heatsink "Q2" in black marker...(time for an upgrade)
After getting the XP-G glued in place and soldered, I reassembled it and took it for a test drive.
It was OK but I wasn't impressed. Had I had a heatsink for the Seoul instead of the Cree, I'm sure it would have been nice when used with an McR18S.
I used it for 5 minutes and took the XP-G back out.
Sometimes you go through all that work only to find you aren't happy with the results...live and learn.
Anyway, at least I had a few Q5's in my modding box to replace the Q2.
It's now back together and working perfectly again.
It still amazes me how well the Cree 005 throws!!
Anyway, I just thought I'd share my experiance.
