Hi all.
I'm having an issue with a pair of MTE P7 flashlights that I'm using as bike lights...
One is the 5 mode model & one is the 2 mode.
Both seem to switch off after about 20-30 mins regardless of mode.
Removing the battery cell & / or screwing & unscrewing the lens & cell caps seems to get them working momentarily.
Cells are fine, still have plenty of charge. (1 x 18650 Li-Ion).
I'm thinking that it might be condensation / moisture ingress as it has been wet when it occurs. Furthermore, after being indoors for 30 mins or so they then work again as normal.
(I haven't got around to using them for a dry commute / bike ride yet).
The light seems well sealed, having a pair of 'O' ring seals on the battery cell cap, & small 'O' ring seals on the lens & lens cap.

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced the same...?

Or can offer some advice / benefit of experience etc...?

Many thanks.

Not a great deal really, other than that mine has worked fine on a couple of (very) wet night rides.

Have you greased the threads? It may also beworth dissasemblingthe tailcap, greasing it all up and clamping everything down as tight as it will go (I'm thinking specifically the disk that clamps the rubber cap on).

I'm using an external battery pack with mine connectedthrough a socket in the tailcap, so thats the only thing I can think of that would be different.

Try this: Remove the lens and reflector, grab the 2 screws that hold the led module with the points of an opened pair of scissors, and screw down the module (clockwise.) This should get rid of any flickering issues.

Dont know if this is the problem but my light had bad contact in the tailecap / spring and clicky had to remove it and reinstal it properly .
second time a had do realy tighten the ring that holds the clicky-taile spring .
hope it helps
Ps. the bumpy ride on your bike mayby losen the spring ? or not haha try it out .

Hmm, I have the 8-mode on my xmas list for the same intended purpose, they seem to be popular for use as bike lights. Have you tried asking about it over on bikeforums.net? There is a long-running SSC P7 thread there in the "Electronics, Lighting, and Gadgets" section. Also, might it be possible that it's a short of some kind that manifests as the light warms up? The fact that both lights are doing it makes me wonder if it's some kind of factory defect.
