I'm trying to find a single mode driver/regulator for an SST-50 to be used in a T20C2 MKII running off 2 CR123.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to get and where ?
Is it possible to bypass a 3 mode to a single mode or does a regulated single mode even exist that will work ?

Okay so I emailed Bryan at ShiningBeam about this driver :

His reply:

I'm sorry, I don't have a single mode version of this driver. According to the manufacturer, this one could be altered to single mode or 5 mode by soldering the wires in a different area on the PCB, but I never done it myself. You could ask around people on CPF and see if anyone knows about it.

So my questions would be:
Has anyone used this driver with an SST-50 and modified it to one mode ?

If you have, could you please post detailed specs on how you went about it ?

My other option would be to try and find out who manufactured it then try and contact them.

I'm hoping for option 1...

CR123 (primary lithium cells) won't be able to provide much more than about 1A without large voltage sag. If you hope to run your SST-50 near 5A you will need to rethink your battery choice (at least to li-ion cells) and consider the current they can safely deliver to the driver...

cheers,
george.

Battery choice could be changed but I'm not worried about pushing the SST-50 hard right now in a host that small.

I'll probably just end up getting the regulated single modes at DX and sandwich two together for 2.8a. I'll learn more doing it myself and will end up with what I want. The Sandwiched ones from DX seem over priced to me anyway.

I will be looking forward to your driver george for a Mag 3D host sitting here collecting dust for a future project. Right now I need to get my ears wet with something simple.

Now to find some spare reflectors and brass pills just in case I screw something up...
