SST-50 - manufacturer?

I am having a confused :laughing:

SST-50's are made by Luminus Devices Inc.

Cree Inc are a separate company and are not Luminus? Am I correct?

I only ask because of my latest acquisition, ThruNite Catapult. Aspiring to be a true flashaholic of course the very first thing I did after receipt of the Cat was to take it apart. And what did I see? Under the white washer that surrounds the SST-50 I can clearly see a star mount - and on that mount printed very plainly is 'CREE'.

Maybe they recycled the mount from elsewhere?

Analogous to putting a BMW badge on a Toyota Corolla, it definitely doesn't make the Corolla something that was made by BMW.

boards for cree 7.0x9.0mm emitters are cheaper than boards for sst-50 emitters, but they are pretty much the same size.

The company used something that will work instead of something designed to work with the SST-50.
