Warning

Let me get this out of the way first , the lens is very fragile , and appears to be held on with a small amount of some sort of silicone . Whilst CAREFULLY trying to put in some groves/slots [ for screws ] on the star itself to fit my MTE , and I was already aware that the lens was fragile , so I was being careful , the lens popped off ! I was able to superglue it back , butt ?

Anyhow , big question is , are the results relevant after this little disaster ?

MTE flashlight / original driver , just a emitter swap =

SST-50 430Lux in my lightbox [ lowest reading possible ] around 2.5A measured at the tail .

Put the SSC P7 back , so same battery = 560Lux or 24% more .

My SSC P7 mods do about 2.2A to the led and 530Lux ...

SST-50 as a drop in ?

Id like to see dedicated drivers , but looks like the SST-90 might be the go ?
So ? Take these results with a grain of salt !

Deff looking forward to some light box results from others ...

hmm sounds disappointing ... but may I ask you what binning your SST-50 has ?

The WJ Binning is supposed to have 500 to 600lm when driven @ 1.75A so IMHO there are only two possibilities

1. either you have a different binning?

2. or this is sheer fraud ... !!!!!

(3. is the lack of lux caused by this "little disaster" ?)

oh and my I ask you where you got it from? I need some as well :naughty: :naughty:

anyway I'm very keen on any further information about the SST-50

Well voltage matters as well , not just Amps .

Stepping = no Idea ... From PhotonFanatic
 = I did mention it could be the LENS falling of and that all results could be null and void , but ill say it again !

Anyhow , I look forward to more results from others ..

But as long as the lens is this fragile , I wont buy another .
Im planning on trying Direct Drive to see if a little more voltage will help .

I have 2 ssr-.50 with star and one ssr-90 , they do not seem fragile, the ssr-50 (maybe low bin)are not more powerful that a p7 bin D but the spot is a lot better with the ssr-50

cree XR-E refflectors fit perfectly with ssr-50

I prefer the ssr-5o than the p7 only for the spot but the ssr-90 its the best I really love the ssr-90

I would say the low output is because the dome/lens came off. I've had it happen with a Cree, and when I put the dome back on, just pressing it on, the output was drastically cut.

Is the dome clear after reinstalling, or does it have artifacts in it?

Edit; I put an SST-50 in a D-mini, and the results were dramatic.

Its clear , I put the emitter in my Double barrel energizer but that could be a mistake due to the current draw ..

Anyhow , Im not to worried about it , I will see how things go when the prices come down , $35USD is a little steep to fritter away , doing it once is enough for me ..

Still waiting to see more light box comparisons ...

nakes results showed over twice the draw, over twice the lumens of an r2, however, only 2/3 the lux. we can only conclude that the lower lux of your light does not mean its less bright over all and a fail. just means the sst50 seems like a flood light like the 4dies, but probably without the donut hole, therefore a win for those who like that. me!
