Stabilizer for handheld laser pointers

That is very interesting... Although I personally couldn't find any patent applications during my search... I'd love to see how this works.

Who has a shaky hand, while giving a presentation?

I often speak in public and even teach two nights a week, and have never had this happen. You can't point from 100' away without *some* movement, but it's really a non-issue. Heck, if you can't hold it still, "circle" the relevant information with the pointer!

Am I wrong, or is this just a solution looking for a problem?

It depends on the user as well as the distance to the screen. I use the "circling" technique sometimes, which actually makes the object of interest stand out much more. I do have trouble at times trying to keep a steady dot on the screen, although I'm not likely to run out and buy that gadget unless it's really inexpensive. Just wondering how it works, and whether the user will have to compensate when trying to create some movement of the dot.

I think it has 2 pointers in it, one stabilized and the other is not. So you can have the shaky and the stabilized in one device, and that is how they demonstrate it.

I am looking for the patent application only for the purpose of seeing how it works. I have the impression that it would simply be a padded module. That alone should cancel out most of the shakiness... think laptop hardrives and portable USB enclosures. These things are very sensitive to vibrations, and they cancel it out with some padding. I'm sure the same principle would apply to that pointer, especially considering that the pointer is surrounded by a black rubber-like object. Also, I'm not sure if doing this would be stepping on the toes of those who made HDD stabilizers. That is all of course speculating that they are using that method. They could have come up with something much more intricate :) I did notice the pointers did not stay parallel through all the shaking, so they could be compensating a little more than a rubbery cushion could do.

Good product for all kinds of presentations nonetheless. Perhaps if the price is right I could buy one myself. Good luck to them;
