hey guys i just noticed that the beam on my stanley is really spread out,
do i have a bulb issue?? it doent really have a hotspot!!! at long distance, think i should return it????it was flashing orange so it was partialy charged.
 
If you go back and read near the beginning of the original Stanley thread, you'll find some info on focusing the bulb. If you're handy with tools, you can take the light apart and use shims to move the bulb a little further out (chances are, this is the right direction) to tighten the spot. On mine, it made a very big difference. We're talking somewhere between .005" and .025" shims.
 
thanks for the advice but didnt want to void the warrenty:oops:so i took it back and got another one and this one has the proper hotspot. the other bulb was slightly crooked too,I should have looked at it! anyway im charging the new one and going to go make some people say WOW when i strike it up!!!!
 
stanley hid question...

after purchasing my light ,plugged it in and had a full charge, green led,
and used it for about 10 min and it went red, I had the impression it had a run time of about 1.75 hrs? this was the first charge. Do i need to condition the SLA battery??????ide really love to get rid of the SLA and put a lithium ion in it is this possible??? any thoughts?????

1.75 hours? No. It's a 3 Ah 12v SLA, drawing around 35 watts, so it draws at 3 amps. Also, SLA batteries have greatly reduced capacity when drawn at high rates. Expect about 30 minutes in 'high' and maybe 40 in 'lower.'

Check out the huge long thread for people who've taken theirs apart. It can be done, but you'll need a new charger.

Even those numbers are a little optimistic. My two got about 28 minutes on hi and maybe 33 on low. The charge light turns orange very quickly after turning the light on from a full charge. That does not mean it's discharged to the point of needing a re-charge. Run it till it dies.

My experience with the Stanley is that the "orange" power indicator LED looks to be red. There is little difference in my eyes between the orange and red indicator.

I have found that the white "utility" LED's on the top of the light will dim significantly as the battery runs low. I use this as a clue to put it on the charger.

On my Stanley HID the flashing charge LED looked red until I looked at it from a different angle.

It is a bit confusing when you first start using it.

It throws quite a beam even if only for 28 minutes.

That is all I really need to check out noises in the street etc.

I normally also have my Olight M30 LED in my back pocket for general use if needed after the initial area has been looked at with the Stanley HID.

At least you can change the SLA battery in the Stanley for a reasonably standard and available one.

No propriatary battery is needed.

I would definitely like more powerful LEDs fitted as they are very dim in the Stanley HID, almost useless in my opinion.

its working ok but the beam has a innerspot and a very wide circle around it so tomorro im going to take it apart and try to focus it more... wish me luck!!!
