Star or round PCB?

Are there any practical differences with using star or round PCBs/heatsinks on high power LEDs? The only factors I can think of are the star would not turn around in place and might have slightly a higher surface area.

Ah, is THAT how those optics fit on. (I've only got a sticky pad optic.) Wait a mo, tho, these ones have four poles, which would be a right pain trying to fit them to a hexagonal star PCB. Where do the three pole ones come from?
