I walked past a store today and saw a wierd looking light with a surefire box behind it. The salesperson told me that it was a 6BL (baton light). I never saw one before, and it looked kind of "old style" and collectable so I bought it. Unfortunately, expandable batons are illegal in Hong Kong. Anyone have one of these too?

The 6BL should have much thicker bezel walls and body walls compared to the normal 6P and Z32 Shock Isolated Bezel. It should also have a switch mounted on the side of the body. I don't recall but this may be a body switch housing that the 6BL Lamp Module screws into/onto. There is a 3BL version. I don't see much point in that. P61 HOLA in the 6BL would be my choice.

The ASP company are likely to be better known for mounting their flashlights on their ASP batons. The SureFire BL can in two, perhaps three different models for different baton makes including the ASP.

I saw and got to handle (for a minute or so) a 6BL fitted on a baton in a London shop. It was for "export" and not for sale in the UK.

Al, yes you are right about the switch, it is indeed on the side towards the back of the light. It is made obviously tougher with thicker aluminium in nearly all places that I can observe. The sales person told me that it was the only one they had left over from an order for a local security company. In any case, it looks pretty cool and I'm glad to have it in my collection now! The surefire box it came in is another story in itself. The box looks completely different to any surefire box I've seen and the inside didn't have any packaging to stop the light from moving around. And the battery was a single stick which I believe SF uses in some of it's weapon lights prone to heavy recoil.

The SF223AC Shock Isolated Battery Stick is the way to go when using shotguns and heavy recoil / hard use firearms. It offers increased reliability and faster "reloads".
They cost a bit more - they are handmade in the USA after all.

Using the SF223AC stick in the 6BL makes sense to increase the reliability of the tool during use and training. The P61 is a tougher, more abuse resistant lamp compared to the P60 in my experience. It's also brighter and more light from fresh SF123As so that's great too!
