( i posted this in " general" but recieved no responses after a dozen and a half views. thought it wise to change tactics.)

I asked this here recently, but i thought i should double check. i just recieved a streamlight 4AA pro-polymer. My intention is to keep this in my car, and as winter is approaching ( i'm in georgia, it's still only "approaching" ) i'd prefer to use lithium AA's. I had been advised here at CPF that it was OK, but i see the packaging said only alkalines, i thought it wise to re-check their suitability. many thanks.....

I have both lights.

Do you have the Luxon or the 7 LED?

One reason that Streamlight states "Alkaline only" is because of all the approvals they have ( look at the fine print on the side of your light - it goes on and on and on and on ) each approval is expensive to get and is specific to the whole "system" - change ANYTHING and you start all over - if they want to add a second battery to the approval it would more than double their testing expenses - their lights carry approvals for very dangerous areas, ones you would not like to get even close to.

With those caveats - I would not hesitate to use Lithiums in my Luxon light but would be reluctant to use them in my 7 LED light. The Luxon is well regulated but the 7 LED is direct drive and counts on the batteries being sucked down to control the heat.

Hope this helps
