I'm considering a headlamp for general purpose use. I am not interested in $40 + lights.
Streamlight makes a couple that look pretty good to me. What about the Trident and the Septor?

Thanks,
Jerry

Sorry, I cannot comment on those two, but, I have used the Princeton Tec Aurora.

Brightness, well it was very good, considering it is a 3, 5MM LED pack.

I liked it because it is light on the head, and is a small form factor, and has a nice pivoting system that allows you to adjust the headset to the EXACT angle you want.

Hello Jerry,

I have a Trident that I keep in my truck. The bulb will run for about 2 hours on a set of batteries. The LED's will continue to operate after the bulb shuts off.

I did a battery run time evaluation on this and if you do a search you may be able to find it. My package stated 200 hours of run time on the LED's. If I remember correctly, it was more like 16-24 hours to half brightness with 3 LED's. The LED's continued to run for the full 200 hours, but got very dim.

I like the light. While tinkering on my truck, I usually end up using the 3 LED's most of the time. It is nice to kick in the bulb when I need it.

I don't think it is up to distance work, but it works well close up.

The Septor is a great light, I have used one since they came out. You might take a look at the new one that is available now Argo.

Thanks. I also saw the post for the Argo, and it does look good.

I do not go into caves or climb, but just thought I might find one useful at times.

I love my Septor. Although I did have a problem with the switch, Streamlight replaced it quickly, no questions asked.

It's the first light I grab for household chores. I like the cheap and readily available AAA batteries, and the three levels really come in handy.

I was going to purchase an Argo but it seems to have runtime issues discussed elsewhere in this forum.

The run-time issue was caused by operating in 20 degree temperature. At room temperature the run-time is as advertised.

I would like to see a comparison of the Tridet, Argo, and Septor.

It would seem that the combination of LED and xenon would be advantageous. The Argo with variable levels of brightness might be as good or better. However, it is more expensive than the Trident, and Septor I think.

Hi Silver Fox,

Thanks. I looked at the reviews, and I think I would like the eincand option of the Trident.

I am also thinking of getting a headlamp for my son-in-law. He would get more use from one than I would. Cost is a big factor for my own, but within reason, not a factor for a gift.

There are some good threads discussing various ones and I need to look at them again.

LightScene,

Actually my post was prompted by this comment from another thread:

"3 output levels and light weight are great, but runtime at 100% is only 1 hour ..... "

One hour of runtime is an issue for me. Maybe for others too. 3 AAA's simply don't produce enough energy to run a Luxeon at full power for very long even at room temp. Regulated lights also pay a price in efficiency, taxing the batteries even further.
