Obviously the Minimag and Legend are popular AA mod platforms. But has anyone done anything with the Streamlight Junior? It looks pretty serious and already sports a Kroll clickie. But unlike the Mag, it uses a flanged base bulb. That might make its reflector more amenable to use with a 1W Luxeon.

sure is a nice looking light.

i'd have to see the inside, but maybe it's possible to turn the inside top down to accept a bb?

I've been wondering the same thing, if it'll accept a Badboy or Madmax sandwich -- the bezel seems much larger than the MiniMag. It is a nice looking 2AA light though, minus the silver clip... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Someone else just posted about the Smith & Wesson 2AA light accepting the InReTech module in the LED forum. Another nice 2AA, but with a side pushbutton switch like the Mags... only, it has the Smith & Wesson writing/logo on the side. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif

Actually I think the SL junior is not a good choice for a mod the head wont come off unless you force it (not really made to come off has some sort of stop to prevent it) and the lense is not intercangeable like the Brinkman or MM its a lexan pop in type and the aluminum body is much thinner than the others it looks much better in the pics than it actually is. If you dont mind the extra length of the S&W AA or the Craftsman AA (because of the push button switch behind the bezel) they look like well built flashlights for mods. Might be worth a look.

Shark,

That sounds like a shame. I didn't like the Craftsman because of its switch and bi-pin lamp. Is there such a thing as a well-made 2AA flashlight that uses a PR base lamp? I mean aside from the really cheap plastic bodies out there.

Ginseng:

Last year RS closed out a nice aluminum 2AA PR based light that listed for $9.99 at about $2.99. Unfortunately, I was only able to find one of them. (The light is shown in the 2002 catalog on page 432 as part number 61-2736)

The bulb holder is flush at the top of the body and has a spring inside that pushes the PR lamp away from the contact surface that is nicely heat-sunk into the body. Screwing the angular connical head with a front bell lip down makes electrical contact. The plastic reflector appears not to removable from the head without destructively removing the lens from the front..

At the moment, I overdrive a Rayovac 2.0 V 1.2 A KPR bulb in this light driven by lithium AA's. (Overdriving is not severe as the bulb is designed for long life in old miners headlights and emergency lights powered by a one-cell lead-acid battery.) As soon as I receive my specially picked "hot" Epeion 2-cell luxeon PR bulb from LEDCorp I will put this bulb into the RS 2AA.

Maybe the RS outlete around you may have a couple left. The franchised stores frequently ignore RS's instructions to company owned stores to close out items at very low prices.
